Key Accountabilities: We have a great opportunity as a Senior Construction Manager to join the Global Engineering and Real Estate team with accountability for delivering the Asia-Pacific Portfolio, initially focused on Qingdao pMDI project for a new pMDI Manufacturing Site. Working with Project Directors& Senior Project Managers you will be a senior member of the Global Engineering and Real Estate (GEREs) project execution team in the Asia-Pac region. As the construction lead of one of GERE’s largest capital projects, you will lead a multidisciplinary team deployed from several regions toward the Qingdao project in China. You will lead the construction team to ensure best in class safety, quality, and delivery, whilst also coordination with senior programme & project leaders to enable timely and informed decision making and reporting. You are expected to determine, implement, and manage the right sized and structured organization throughout the project stages to adhere to all expected processes in AZ while driving agility and efficiency in delivery. You will lead the construction throughout the Shell & Core phase (delivered by Local Government State Agent) and the Fit-Out phase, which will be delivered by AstraZeneca (via CMAR model). You will work closely with Construction Management Companies, Contractors, and their sub-contractors to ensure safe and successful project delivery by overseeing their delivery approach, management, and deliverables. You will lead a number of internal and external resources to plan and deliver the Qingdao project according to the highest standards of safety & compliance (including cGMP), on time and within budget. You will ensure that customer requirements and partner expectations are consistently identified and interpreted correctly within the project delivery. This is a strategic project for AZ with an expected indicative budget of $700M. You will join the AstraZeneca GERE team at an exciting time as new ways of working are introduced in project delivery with a focused attitude on safety, quality, planning, and a high level of collaboration. We will need you to be a key communicator and influencer in organisational change environment as the company seeks to bring increased predictability and enhanced partner engagement to project construction delivery in this strategic project. Experience of pharmaceutical capital project construction delivery in a global environment and experience of working with Tier 1 Engineering/ Construction Management Providers will be a distinct advantage. Considerable capital project delivery experience from other process industries will be considered, including Local Government State Agent delivery. In this role, you will set goals and manage performance standards for the construction teams and will hold responsibility for ensuring project delivery is compliant with local requirements and national legislation, as well as in full alignment with business expectations and GERE commitments. We'll expect you to support the definition and execution of a sourcing strategy for the project, including negotiations, appointment, control and integration of multiple vendors, delivery Providers and internal partners. You will be responsible for implementation and management of the construction contracts, including negotiating and resolving disputes. As your role develops, you will also support other regional projects (including those at our Taizhou and Wuxi sites) from an early stage to establish the construction management strategy, governance, and teams. You will furthermore drive efficient execution and handover in line with standard processes and draw on functional support within GERE and AZ to ensure the project performs in line with expectations. Essential Requirements: Bachelors degree or equivalent in a engineering construction related area Demonstrated experience leading very large construction projects in pharm-bio, R&D and/or aseptic secondary manufacturing capital projects – including shell & core, fit out, commissioning, qualification, handover (plus permits & licences). Leadership experience and extensive knowledge in a manufacturing, engineering, construction or R&D environment. Full knowledge of relevant Safety, Health & Environment and construction legislation. Experience with construction safety, quality and progress assessment / reporting. Capability in developing and implementing business strategy. Project and organisational change skills. Global experience with leadership of senior level multicultural project teams with a focus on China. Results focused and with superior customer partnering skills and high degree of resilience. Experience working with and driving lean principles. Demonstrable experience in working within common data environments.
