The Liability TPA Oversight Director will lead a team of Consultants responsible for providing direct oversight of unbundled liability claims within CNA’s TPA Claims Oversight team. This team provides an extra layer of review for complex coverage, severe, and catastrophic losses on TPA-handled claims, aiming to mitigate loss experience and resolve claims quickly and efficiently. The Director will ensure compliance with contractual agreements, evaluate TPA performance, and implement strategies to optimize claim outcomes and minimize liability exposure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in liability claims handling and management of claims professionals, exceptional analytical skills, experience working with TPAs, and the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
JOB DESCRIPTION:Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
  • Effectively communicates and shares pertinent and timely information with employees by holding team meetings, regular 1:1 discussions, reinforcing leadership messages, and providing shared access to company process and protocol documentation.
  • Ensures applicable claim handling protocols are followed by overseeing appropriate file engagement, monitoring quality dashboards, providing ongoing feedback, and addressing training needs across multiple teams.
  • Oversees the performance of TPAs handling liability claims to ensure adherence to service level agreements and compliance with company policies.
  • Conducts regular audits and reviews of TPA processes and claim files to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with TPA partners to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate TPA performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyzes claim trends, outcomes, and costs to identify opportunities for reducing liability exposure and improving claim management efficiency.
  • Provides regular performance reports and insights to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Identifies and implements best practices and process improvements to enhance claim handling efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develops and delivers training programs and resources for TPAs to ensure consistent and high-quality claim management practices.
  • Leads initiatives to leverage technology and data analytics to streamline claim processes and improve decision-making.
  • Acts as a point of contact for escalated claim issues, providing resolution and guidance as needed.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects and initiatives to support broader risk management goals.
May perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Proven experience in managing and overseeing third-party administrators.
  • Thorough knowledge of the insurance industry and the organization's products, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain talented claim professionals and/or managers.
  • Advanced technical liability expertise and business management acumen, investigation, and claims resolution experience, and expert knowledge of claims principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to solve complex issues with a sense of urgency, utilizing and effectively managing all available resources to make informed decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how to extract insights from metrics to make informed business decisions.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging business problems, lead through change, and take appropriate levels of risk.
  • Adaptable and able to effectively lead through change.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Ability to model CNA's leadership behaviors.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience, with three years of management experience preferred
  • Applicable certifications or professional designations preferred.
In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $87,000 to $178,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
