Our client is a premier Investment Manager based in downtown Chicago seeking to add a SVP/Director of Financial Reporting. This individual will partner with Firms' Executive Committee; Chief Accounting Officer, Head of Tax and the CFO, providing expertise with respect all things Financial Reporting (SEC)/SOX & GAAP Compliance/Internal Controls) for firm.

The Vice President of Financial Reporting (VP of Financial Reporting) role requires a control and strategic minded thinker with confidence and command of exempt organization accounting and disclosure principles. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for broad oversight. Key Leadership position, internally and externally, providing subject matter expertise on accounting guidance and makes recommendations regarding the interpretation and application of accounting standards under company policy and GAAP.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide key leadership and direction for all strategic and day-to-day issues related to accounting functions including general ledger and investment accounting, budgeting, analysis, audit, and tax (domestic and international).
• Prepare the quarterly preparation and review of consolidated financial statements, and related SEC disclosures for public filings including forms: 10K, 10Q, and 8Ks.
• Facilitate implementation of changes to the financial statements and SEC Filings, as required
• This person will work with key stakeholders to ensure accounting and financial reporting process risks have been identified, assessed and documented in accordance with SOX requirements.
• Assess and challenges the completeness and timeliness of action plans, escalating issues for prioritized resolution and monitoring issues to closure.
• Oversee preparation of fiscal records.
• Manage annual audits & tax preparation; works closely with audit and tax partners.
• Review complicated accounting issues and makes recommendations for appropriate treatment.
• Ensure prompt and accurate financial reporting and filings
• Provide guidance and oversight on accounting matters to groups within and outside of Financial Reporting to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
• Interact proactively with the business and stay on top of business developments and trends in the market. Being able to connect them with the financial results. Being able to explain non-routine transactions and coordinate their accounting treatment.
• Drive automation of information gathering from month end close to presentation of information to the management and external auditor.

Required Education and Experience

• 10 years of applicable technical accounting policy experience within Alternative Asset Management
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• CPA Big 4 experience mandatory
• Leadership and executive experience in accounting and finance with implementation of best practices.
• Strong technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP, financial statement presentation, and Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
• Experience with Public Co Reporting specifically navigating and preparing consolidated financials for variable interest entity, must be well versed with disclosure requirements, such as ASC 810
• Must be current on U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
