Job Description Department : Steam Plant - JM Pay Rate Type : Hourly Employee Type : Job Summary : Colby seeks applicants for operators at the central steam plant to fill shifts as necessary on a temporary on call basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Operate boilers, maintain operational logs, and other duties as necessary

Complete all work in a prompt, neat, safe, and careful manner that displays common sense, planning, and thoughtfulness

Maintain tools, equipment, and mechanical areas in a neat and clean condition

Work in a positive, cooperative manner with other departmental personnel and the Colby community

Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

QUALIFICATIONS :

High school diploma or equivalent required

Maine State High Pressure Boiler Operators license required

Mechanical ability to operate, maintain, and service the mechanical equipment and systems used in high-pressure steam plants

Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community

Basic computer skills such as email, Word, and Excel

KEY RELATIONSHIPS :

The steam plant operator reports to the engineer in charge of the central steam plant and interacts with other members of Facilities Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

General indoor and outdoor physical plant and campus environment. Position involves frequent movement. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to climb or crawl into small spaces, including manholes, steam pits, mechanical rooms, and other spaces as required to perform the requirements of the position.

Computer and tool usage involving repetitive hand / wrist motion is also necessary.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Successful and satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) and a pre-employment health screening.
