College Board is Hiring a Remote Director, AP Reader Management and Experience

About the Team The AP Program Planning team is responsible for the successful execution of the annual AP Reading event where millions of student exam responses from AP Exams are scored. This team is responsible for strategic planning support, data-driven solution options analysis and multi-year implementation planning, and coordinating with various vendors including event management, convention centers, visitor bureaus, hotels, and travel. The team sits within the broader AP Delivery team, responsible for managing execution of AP Annual Cycle with schools, educators and students from course setup and exam ordering through exam administration, scoring and score reporting. With 40 courses and exams across multiple subject areas, the Advanced Placement Program is the most widely accepted college-level academic program available to high school students. Each year, students around the world who want to achieve at the highest level become AP® students. Every year, over two million students worldwide take over five million AP Exams, submitting over 22 million constructed responses which must be evaluated and scored during the AP Reading in June by AP Readers. AP Readers are high school AP teachers and higher education professionals who have been recruited, hired, and trained to fairly and accurately score written student responses to AP Exams, either at centralized Reading sites or remotely via an online scoring system. About the Opportunity As the Director, AP Reader Management and Experience you be a key member of the AP Program Planning team, which is responsible for the annual AP Reading event. You will ensure compliance by vendors serving as the Employer of Record for AP Readers. You will create documentation for all AP Reader related processes and policies. You will build and maintain pools of AP readers for 40 AP subjects. You will build and implement communication plans with AP Readers and Chief Readers. You will handle payments, implement shared HR responsibilities, handle any AP reader program escalations. The role not only requires strong organizational and communication skills, but also mastery of policies, recruitment strategies, and vendor liaison functions. In this role, you will: Requirements Management and Content Development (35%) Deliver year-round support, but will peak July – December Manage requirements and implementation during modernization and new pattern development for data exchanges between vendors Develop and administer steady-state requirements, SLAs, and ongoing vendor performance for new Reader hiring and existing Reader management Establish new capability (requirements definition, solution design review, implementation timing, etc) by which AP Reader data is exchanged between College Board and multiple vendors Ensure this capability is developed in time for SY 2024-2025 AP Reading planning and managed annually, including enhancements and efficiencies as AP Reading planning and staffing evolve AP Reader data exchanged through these patterns would include: Reader recruitment strategies / targets, new Reader onboarding, Reader selections, Reader invitations, Reader compensation, Reader performance management Secure/author process documentation, policies, project plan, communications materials for all Reader employment and compensation activities Oversee/author content for AP reader employment updates, explanation of pay rates, employment policies as related to Reading event, working with multiple vendors as-needed Reader Recruitment and Reader Pool Management (35%) Deliver year-round support but will peak August - December Direct coordination of applicants in the onboarding process to be hired as AP Readers Collaborate with vendors and College Board teams to implement ongoing hiring and onboarding process for educators interested in becoming new AP Readers Oversee Reader sourcing efforts of higher education faculty by vendors to meet pool requirements including for high-needs subjects Manage Reader recruitment efforts of AP teachers, liaising with vendors and other College Board stakeholders as needed Coordinate with vendors to ensure that subject Reader pools are up-to-date Conduct annual review of AP Reader pool with vendors to evaluate performance, policy, and other pool adjustments Perform exception management related to hiring edge cases and employment related escalations Assist with annual AP Chief Reader hiring cycle management, contracts, and employment duration management Administration and Operations (30%) Deliver year-round support but will peak May – July Establish process for and annually manage reporting and resolution to support accurate pay, including SLA’s and issue escalations coordinating across vendors, AP stakeholders, and CB finance as necessary Ensure implementation of shared HR responsibilities at Reading Sites (e.g. delivery of required ADA accommodations/equipment) on an annual basis About You Utility player – able to pick up things that were not on the radar the day before Self-starter, able to identify and solve for needs without explicit direction Ability to manipulate, interpret, and refine data to drive decision making Demonstrated experience working with both detailed requirements as well as early-stage ideas that require impact analysis and full vetting Able to work well with staff at all organizational levels, including leadership among a group of peers An excellent verbal and written communicator – clear, compelling, and persuasive in your communications Demonstrated experience balancing multiple diverse projects with competing demands for scope, time, cost, and risk, with a limited pool of resources A team player eager to troubleshoot challenges, share your knowledge, and learn from others Excels at communication and contact (desire to ‘want to know’ people and what is important to them) Prefers “yes” over “no” when it comes to hard things -> bring positivity into any room Prefers concepts to work with over specific checklists Degree or advanced degree in a relevant field, and 7 years of related work experience preferred You are authorized to work in the US About Our Process Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise and/or panel interview, and reference checks. The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000.
