Position Summary

The individual will assist in various activities related to the makerspace, providing support to both staff, faculty, and students as they explore and develop their projects. Training is a continually ongoing process in this environment due to the evolving nature of the space and the integration of emerging technologies. Those without experience and willing to learn complex skills and machinery are encouraged to apply.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
•Customer Service: Provide specialized and knowledgeable customer service to makerspace users and resolve account issues. Offer guidance and support to makerspace users as well as internal projects by CSM staff and faculty. Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment.
•Equipment Maintenance: Assist with the maintenance and organization of makerspace equipment and tools. Perform routine equipment checks, troubleshoot minor issues, and report any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
•Safety Compliance: Ensure makerspace members adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
•Training and Workshops: Assist in conducting workshops and training sessions for makerspace users particularly in safety and equipment usage. Assist as an aide supporting instructor lessons.
•Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of materials, supplies, and consumables used in the makerspace. Restock materials as needed and notify the supervisor of any supply shortages.
•Documentation: Keep detailed records of makerspace usage, including, but not limited to, equipment reservations, materials consumed, foot traffic, and user feedback. Assist in maintaining a database of project documentation and standard operating procedures.
•Promotion and Outreach: Assist with the promotion of the makerspace including, but not limited to, giving tours, attending CSM events, and supporting makerspace projects.
•Space Organization: Maintain a clean and organized makerspace environment, including workstations, storage areas, and project displays.
Minimum Education and Training
•High school degree or the equivalent
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
•Current enrollment as a student at CSM
•Strong interest in making, design, and fabrication.
•Excellent communication and people skills.
•Willingness to learn complex software and hardware (training will be provided)
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
•No prior experience is required. However, during the individual's tenure, they must develop, learn, and understand most of the following software and hardware on the job.
Hardware:
•Laser cutting
•3D printing
•CNC machining (routers, mills, lathes)
•Garment and textile machinery
•Vinyl Cutting
•PCB and electronic manufacturing equipment
Software:
•3D modeling software
•Vector Graphics software
•Raster Graphics software (Photoshop, Gimp, Krita)
•CAM software
•Any computer language (python, C#, ruby, rust, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
•G-Code
•Game Development software (Godot, Unreal, Unity)
•Open-source software
Physical Requirements:
Equipment operation and maneuver in makerspace lab. Receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information. Read and comprehend safety related information and instructions in equipment use/maintenance. Lifting up to 20 lbs.
