Description

The role of the Part-Time Adult Basic Education Transitional Opportunities (ABETO) Instructional Aide, College and Career Readiness (CCR) is to develop, instruct and assess students in the CCR program. The Instructional Aide works in a collaborative manner with the Access to Achievement Coordinator, the CCR, Pathways and Testing Coordinator, and the Adult Hight School (AHS)/High School Equivalent (HSE) Instructors.
The Part-Time ABETO Instructional Aide receives supervision from the Director, College and Career Readiness and may receive technical and functional supervision from the Access to Achievement Coordinator.

Examples of Duties

  • Respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty and staff; schedule pre and posttests; provide routine information and give directions.
  • Participate in the maintenance of office files, reports, records and other data; gather and compile the required information as necessary; sort and file documents and records including paperwork, student records and catalogs according to standard policies and procedures.
  • Run minor errands; deliver paperwork, check mail and obtain supplies on and off campus. Maintain office and testing supplies.
  • Assist in student enrollment; verify accuracy and completeness of paperwork; add students in database.
  • Assist in new student orientation; compile a list of persons interested in the program, assist with pre-registration paperwork, and administer placement testing.
  • Administer Test of Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) written placement test, score and document results or any approved NRS test adopted for use by CCR.
  • Record test scores on LEIS forms and enter into database and on student roster.
  • Assist students with registration of HSE exams and creating accounts with online testing services.
  • Contact students with poor class attendance records.
  • Assist students with securing funding for HSE testing through Edgewood Discretionary Fund or other available resources.
  • Assist students with transportation needs.
  • Guide students' instruction while using laptops, computers, or other electronic devices.
  • Monitor students during whole group, small group, and independent instruction and work to keep students focused.
  • Assist the instructor with implementing established lessons.
  • Monitor student engagement, reinforce and clarify instructions, and assist with learning.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Ability to secure a CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement within 60 days of hire.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major course work in education or a related field.
  • Possess a CDL.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Basic word processing and database methods, techniques and programs.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Basic mathematical principles.
Ability to:
  • Perform general clerical activities including the maintenance of appropriate files and compiling information for reports.
  • Type and word-process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and requests for information.
  • Maintain the security of confidential appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Explain instructional tasks to adult students.
  • Apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.
