Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance and Operations, the Maintenance Technician/Pool Technician provides care of equipment, decks, and upkeep of the swimming pool facilities, the technician orders and applies chemicals to maintain proper pool balancing and is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain buildings, classrooms, offices, roofs, and mechanical equipment for all District facilities.
This position is assigned to the Visalia campus. The working hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Initial placement is at $65,499 annual pay.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Maintenance Technician/Pool Technician include:
  • Monitors, handles, orders, and applies all chemicals for the swimming pool.
  • Performs cleaning, maintenance, and repairs of swimming pool, deck and equipment.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of chemicals, parts, and supplies as needed.
  • Assembles, installs, and repairs pool equipment.
  • Performs basic building plumbing repairs; repair/replace flush valves and faucets, wipe and flush joints, clean drains, water, and sewer lines as required. Install, program, maintain, and repair computer systems including the energy management system (for necessary electrical troubleshooting and repairs.)
  • Performs basic electrical repairs; Assist in maintaining and repairing lighting circuits and other types of electrical lighting and power equipment.
  • Install, repair, and replace doors and door hardware including but not limited to handles, latches, hinges, auto door closers, and locks.
  • Perform drywall and painting repairs, including graffiti removal as needed.
  • Operate a variety of hand power tools and equipment required for maintenance and repair work in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform a variety of skilled work, maintenance, and repairs on District mechanical equipment and facilities including various wood, metal, and concrete structures, locks, windows, doors, ceiling acoustics, flooring, fencing, roofing, gutters, and drains.
  • Inspect roofs, sidewalks, and parking lots for safety hazards and maintenance repairs.
  • Operate welding equipment and other machine tools in the construction and repair of parts and items; fabricate new parts to meet special needs; repair, weld or straighten metal parts on machinery and equipment.
  • Assist the Manager, Maintenance and Operations with coordination and scheduling of contractors, service and repair companies for renovation, remodeling and servicing of District facilities.
  • Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures, using the District work order system.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above, one year of general pool maintenance including the handling of chemicals, and one year of building maintenance or related experience.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Obtain and secure a National Swimming Pool Foundation Certification as a Certified Pool/Spa Operator within one year of employment.
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Materials, tools, and methods of pool, building, and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Health and safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Use and care of tools used in building trades.
  • Welding methods and equipment.
Ability to:
  • Identify malfunctions; perform troubleshooting, repairs, and installation.
  • Perform pool maintenance and upkeep, and be responsible for pool chemicals and balancing.
  • Keep daily logs and communicate with Tulare County Environmental Health.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Follow plans, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Identify malfunctions that require the attention of skilled personnel.
  • Read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
  • Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds.

  • Working Outdoors in hot weather and direct sun
