Job Title: Instructional Assistant, Behavior Support Title 1Reports to: Principal of Assigned CampusDept/Campus: Assigned Title 1 CampusPay Grade: Paraprofessional - PG 2Wage/Status: Non-ExemptDays: 187 Primary Purpose:Assist teacher in preparation and management of behavior, classroom activities, and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher. This position is Title I funded. Education/Certification Qualifications:High school diploma or GED, andOne of the following:Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended, whichever is less;Possess an associate (or higher) degree; orMeet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment—Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; orKnowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.Additionally, within one year of being hired, Title I, Part A paraprofessionals must have the Educational Aide state certification https://tea.texas.gov/texas-educators/certification/initial-certification/becoming-an-educational-aide-in-texas . Special Knowledge/Skills:Ability to work well with childrenAbility to communicate effectively Experience:Some experience working with in a school setting Major Responsibilities and Duties:Assist teacher in preparing instructional materialsHelp maintain a neat and orderly classroomProvide orientation and assistance to substitute teachersConduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacherWork with individual students or small groups of studentsHelp supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion; work within a changing and demanding environment; make effective decisions and take independent action; establish and maintain working relationships with staff and parents; work for irregular/prolonged hours; meet schedules and deadlines; read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies Professional Conduct:Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitors.Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures.Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.Demonstrates respect, courteous to peers and visitors and assists fellow workers willingly.Avoid speaking badly about the district and district personnel. Equipment Used:Copier, personal computer, and other instructional technology equipment. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used:Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, and other instructional technology Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
