Summary of Role: Next Level Nola is seeking Americorp Volunteers to serve as Associate Success Coaches who will work closely with a cohort of fellows to coach them through the completion of our innovative Next Level- NOLA program.

Summary of Organization:
Next Level Nola is a one-year college and career bridge year program that offers students the opportunity to earn up to an associates degree and/or career training in fields like Information Technology, pre-educator, and skilled trades. Our program offers:

  • Transferable college credits
  • Career certificates and skilled trades apprenticeships
  • Paid internships
  • Technology and transportation grants
  • Individual coaching

Our fellows will gain the skills, self-efficacy, resources, networks, and experiences that position them to achieve their college, career and life goals. To learn more about Next Level Nola, please visit our website at nextlevelnola.org.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support fellows in articulating a vision for their future while providing clarity on the steps they must take to accomplish their goals (including the sequence of courses and/or internship experiences that are required).
  • Connect fellows to related employment experiences, high-wage, high demand careers and ensure they are building a network to support success in their chosen pathway.
  • Assist fellows with identifying resources that will help them succeed in their chosen path. Ensure that they are able to navigate complex, bureaucratic systems.
  • Monitor student progress in dual enrollment college courses and partner programs, learn what is needed and, when necessary, provide supplemental support to fellows who require additional assistance to master content or successfully complete field experiences.
  • Teach and hold fellows accountable to positive academic habits and mindsets- goal setting, strategic prioritization, organization, time management, note-taking, applying academic feedback, study skills, preparedness, participation in collaborative study groups and computer literacy.
  • Coach fellows on how to present themselves in a variety of professional experiences.
  • Assist fellows with creating and updating powerful resumes and cover letters, using these tools in real-world situations to achieve personal goals.
  • Support fellows in sustaining relationships with mentors and other career exploration opportunities, aligned with career passions, and leverage these relationships toward longer term college and career options (recommendations letters and connections in the field).
  • Support fellows in getting a job (ideally with a connection to a future career aspiration) and successfully navigating the professional requirements of the position.
  • Assist fellows in establishing healthy routines and/or accessing resources in the community that support them in being their best selves, including mental health, medical care, exercise, healthy eating, social groups, support circles and professional memberships.

Mindsets, beliefs, and skills:

  • A belief that all people, regardless of their backgrounds and educational pasts, will succeed in college or in an appropriately rigorous post-secondary pathway when provided with the right combination of exposure, access, and support.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and spoken word with a wide range of clients and constituents, including fellows, parents, professors, teachers, college counselors, employers, and community-based partner organizations.
  • ‘AND’ thinking- The disciplined practice of embracing two seemingly opposing ideas in the mind at the same time without placing limits on what is possible.
  • Whatever it takes mentality - To be excited to be part of building the plane as they fly it. Team members are prepared to not have all of the answers yet and to be part of figuring it out.
  • More than a job approach- Commitment to our mission extends beyond any regular work schedule because the right person fills their bucket by serving others.

Hours:
Volunteers will be assigned 40 hours per week.

Associate Success Coach Manager:
The Associate Success Coaches will report directly to the Program Director of Next Level Nola, Phil Rollins.
