  • Our client,is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) within their Day Support Program with one to six months experience working with persons with disabilities in a private home, group home, day support, or other facilities.
  • IMMEDIATE HIRE
  • Positions are located throughout the Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
The Direct Support Professional is vital in assisting individuals via our Day Support Program with daily activities, and social integration within the community. This role involves close coordination under the guidance of the Program Director and adherence to the individual's specific Service Plan.
Key Duties and Requirements:
  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Proficiency in reading, writing, and basic arithmetic.
  • Activity Participation: Engaging in scheduled activities with individuals and documenting any deviations from the plan.
  • Safe Handling Techniques: Knowledge of proper lifting and repositioning methods.
  • Transportation Duties: Operating company vehicles to safely transport individuals to various community events.
  • Receptiveness to Supervision: Following directions and feedback from the Program Supervisor.
  • Documentation Skills: Accurately recording individuals' activities and observations in progress notes, with proper dating, signing of entries, and timely submission.
  • Adherence to Policy: Strict compliance with agency procedures regarding amendments to individual documentation.
  • Maintenance of a Safe Environment: Ensuring a secure, sanitary, and therapeutic setting for individuals.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Incident Reporting: Completing incident reports accurately and submitting them to the Program Supervisor by the end of the shift.
  • Abuse and Neglect Reporting: Reporting any suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with agency policy.
  • Professional Interaction: Courteous and respectful engagement with individuals, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Training and Meetings Attendance: Participating in all mandated meetings and training sessions as instructed by the Program Supervisor.
  • Certification Requirements: Maintaining a DSP Orientation Certificate, TOVA certification, and other required certifications.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Completing special projects and other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Personal Attributes: Demonstrating a caring and positive attitude, with a commitment to working effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of documented and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time or volunteer experience in caring for, training, or working with individuals with various disabilities, preferably within day support, group home, hospital, treatment center, community, or nursing home setting.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate emotional maturity and patience necessary to understand and accept the social, psychological, and emotional needs of individuals with developmental disabilities
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Regular use of hands for typing and reaching.
  • Ability to hear effectively, with or without a hearing aid.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds).
  • Exposure to health risks in the working environment.
  • Requirement to work in the Williamsburg Day Support Center with company transportation responsibility.
  • Potential exposure to challenging situations, including psychiatric and deceased patients.
Employment Conditions:
  • Familiarity and compliance with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Protection of individuals' rights and prevention of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Cooperation in investigations and procedural meetings.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Mandatory training and certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Behavior Intervention.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and appropriate automobile liability insurance.
  • Successful completion of Criminal History and Central Registry background investigations.
