Recruiter
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard, along with its divisions Steel America and Weld America, is seeking a motivated Recruiter to join our HR team. The Recruiter will play a key role in supporting the recruitment process by identifying, attracting, and onboarding top talent for various roles within the organization. This position is ideal for someone passionate about recruitment and eager to grow their career in human resources.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations, as needed. Position may require limited travel.
Job Description and Key Responsibilities:
- Talent Sourcing: Assist in sourcing candidates through various channels, including job boards, social media, networking, and employee referrals.
- Screening and Interviewing: Conduct initial phone screens and coordinate interviews, ensuring a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
- Candidate Management: Maintain and update the applicant tracking system (ATS), ensuring accurate records of all candidates and their progress in the hiring process.
- Job Posting: Draft and post job descriptions across various platforms, ensuring they align with company needs and attract the right talent.
- Onboarding: Assist with the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing offer letters, conducting background checks, and coordinating with other departments to ensure a smooth transition.
- Collaboration: Work closely with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs and provide support in identifying suitable candidates.
- Reporting: Generate recruitment metrics and reports to monitor the effectiveness of sourcing and hiring strategies.
- Compliance: Ensure all recruitment practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Other responsibilities could include:
- Position will assist in OFCCP and regulatory compliance efforts.
- Develop and execute full-service recruitment plans, in partnership with line management and business development leaders, to ensure the Company attracts/hires/retains qualified candidates while building a steady state pipeline of qualified candidates for a broad array of corporate, skilled, and technical trades.
- Regularly interfacing with management to provide status updates and build relationships.
- Interface with employees, Company leaders of all levels, as well as a broad array of community and workforce development partners (such as state employment agencies and Veteran/Disability/Female/Minority advocacies). The position will assist required outreach and workforce development activities and serve as secondary POC to external agencies.
- This position requires some flexibility of schedule (particularly to support recruitment events, activities, and reaching candidates in alternate time zones), travel, and attendance at recruiting fairs, and may occasionally work hours beyond a standard workweek.
Qualifications:
- Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least two (2) years of demonstrated experience in a recruiting or human resources role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Must be able to efficiently use standard business software and tools (such Microsoft Office Suite).
- Must have strong interpersonal skills to build trusting partnerships as well as effective verbal and written communication skills. Candidate must have comfort with public speaking and the ability to present to audiences of various sizes.
- Must be familiar with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruitment tools.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience recruiting for skilled trades or maritime professionals highly preferred.
- Previous experience recruiting in a shipyard environment highly preferred.
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel-up to 15%.
Physical Requirements
- Work generally performed in an office setting but may require occasional visits to industrial or shipboard settings.
- Will normally require minor lifting and carrying of boxes of supplies/equipment.
