Description

Position Purpose

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) teacher works under the supervision of the Head of School. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher (DHH teacher) will provide 30 minutes of direct specialized instruction (2x/week for a total of 240 minutes per month), a minimum of 30 minutes per month of indirect services to parents, general education teachers, and/or special education staff to help support student goals, annual evaluation, and progress monitoring. In addition, the DHH teacher will provide in-service training and resources to general education teachers and service providers to help better understand the needs of DHH students and support the student's educational needs and self-advocacy skills.

Job Duties

  • Upholds CECs beliefs found on the CEC website.
  • Responsible for providing instruction, case management, and program and service development for students that are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Assesses students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Participate in Individual Educational Program (IEP) development and implementation for students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing in accordance with Colorado Early Colleges and the Charter School Institute policies and procedures.
  • Complete educational evaluations of the students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing to include formal and informal testing, observations, and interviews.
  • Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists when appropriate.
  • Provide materials and/or information for the classroom teacher, special education teacher, and other related service provider.
  • Participate in IEP meetings for students with hearing impairments.
  • Provide materials and/or information for the classroom teacher, special education teacher, and other related service providers.
  • Presents programs and in-services concerning hearing impairments to building level personnel as requested.
  •  Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Colorado State Department of Education (CDE) licensed as Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher.
