ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCYVeteran's Benefits and Services CoordinatorABOUT THIS POSITIONSummary: The Veteran's Benefits and Services Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the Veteran's Affairs (VA) Educational Benefits Program; serves as a Veteran's Certifying Official for Colorado Mesa University; is responsible for updating VA policies and procedures to keep up-to-date with regulation changes and customer service needs; participates in VA outreach events; and assists with graduation audit processing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Manage the VA Educational Benefits in accordance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. This includes making modifications to institutional policies and procedures, as necessary, to ensure compliance with new laws and program requirements as they are approved by the various Veteran's educational programs/chapters.
Develop and maintain control systems to ensure compliance.
Oversee VA benefits certification processes utilizing electronic databases and online approvals through the appropriate/official IT systems (i.e, VA Once). This includes oversight and collaboration with related offices to ensure timely completion of the initial certification process and student updates for course enrollment changes, academic standing issues, graduation completion, and billing issues as necessary.
Monitor, evaluate, and improve Veteran's services across the university to enhance the veteran student's experience. Continually assess customer service provided and identify and address issues that may impede quality service.
Attend required training for procedures, regulations, and services related to this position.
Participate in veteran's outreach events as necessary, including events held in the evening and on the weekends.
Assist with graduation audit processing, with a clear understanding of degree requirements in relation to VA certifying processes. Serve as a degree evaluator veteran students.
Participate in and provide information for internal and external audits.
Develop and maintain written policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
Prepare and coordinate campus training for services related to this position.
Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student employees for data entry/processing of specialized functions within this position.
Oversee the training and supervision of frontline student employees on appropriate Veteran's Affairs guidelines with the goal to improve customer service for Veteran's.
Communicate with other departments involved in the VA certifying process to resolve problems and to ensure completeness and conformity of student academic records.
Minimum Qualifications Required:A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Preference will be given to a candidate with U.S. military service with an honorable discharge or a dependent who has used military benefits.
Preference will be given to the applicant who has at least one year experience working with the veteran educational benefits program.
Candidates must be detail-oriented; have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing, to deal with people at all levels diplomatically and professionally, to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; and be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
