Colorado Network Staffing is Hiring a Water Facility Technician Near Denver, CO

DescriptionJob Description
This is an entry level position. Under direct supervision, train on and perform a variety of jobs necessary for the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and appurtenant structures. As a treatment technician, learn to use physical and chemical conventional water treatment techniques to become proficient at providing an adequate supply of safe, high-quality water to the public. As an asset management technician, learn to maintain plant equipment and structures such as chemical feed/storage, piping, valves, basins, and reservoirs.
Essential Functions
  • All Technicians must be able to perform safety sensitive functions; provide appropriate first response to emergencies and spills including those involving hazardous materials, wear respirators including self-contained breathing apparatus as required. They may be required to perform on-call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Technicians report to two or more treatment plants. All team members perform other duties as assigned and cross train as needed. Other responsibilities depending on team assignment (T=Treatment and AM = Asset Management) are set forth below:
  • T: Learn and become proficient at determining and changing plant flows to meet system demands. Operate necessary computer equipment to coordinate plant operations.
  • T: Learn and become proficient at controlling quality and quantity of finished water by regulating filter operations as required. Maintain proper chemical dosages and feed equipment settings for influent and effluent plant flows.
  • T: Learn and become proficient at performing laboratory tests on influent and effluent water such as turbidity, alkalinity and hardness, chlorine residual, ammonia residual, fluoride concentration, pH, odor, and coagulant dosage tests. Develop written operating procedures.
  • AM: Learn to and become proficient at repairing and maintaining equipment such as pumps, compressors, chemical feed equipment, electric, hydraulic and pneumatic control equipment, chlorinators, valves, and gauges.
  • AM: Learn to and become proficient at performing preventative maintenance, installation, fabrication, correction, adjusting plant equipment, and modify existing systems to accommodate plant needs. Learn to and become proficient at performing preventative maintenance, installation, fabrication, correction, adjusting plant equipment, and modify existing systems to accommodate plant needs. Equipment encountered includes, but is not limited to, pumps, compressors, chemical feed equipment, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic control equipment, valves and gauges.
The following disciplines fall under this job description:
  • Treatment Tech: Under direct supervision, learn and become proficient at performing a variety of duties necessary to the operation of treatment facilities and appurtenant structures. Uses physical, chemical and biological conventional and advanced treatment techniques to provide an adequate supply of safe, high-quality water to the public and other end-users. Performs process control laboratory analyses. Uses SCADA to manage and control operations. Provides routine metrics and data analytics.
  • Asset Management Tech: Under direct supervision, learn and become proficient at performing a variety of laboring, semi-skilled, and skilled duties related to managing and maintaining assets at treatment plants. Install, maintain, demolish, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems throughout the treatment facilities. Install and maintain small process pumps, valves, motors, compressors, piping systems, gauges, pneumatics, hydraulics, and other related systems.

  • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class 'R' Colorado driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a Full-Time position Monday-Friday, the average work week being 40 hours.
Work Environment
  • The position regularly operates in a utility facility and works with mechanical equipment where safety precautions are mandatory.
  • Physical Demands
  • General: Required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Tolerance: Able to sit or stand in front of a computer or other equipment for long periods of time. Able to sustain attentive work on tedious or repetitive tasks
  • Vision: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Lift/Carry: Able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Climb/Crawl: Able to climb ladder, crawl under typical work surfaces
  • Movement: Able to travel to and traverse uneven terrain, climb ladder and/or scaffolding, crawl under objects with less than 30 inch clearance
