Columbia Care is Hiring a Laboratory Manager Near Vineland, NJ

Reports to: Manager, Facility Operations
Position OverviewThe Laboratory Manager is responsible for the safe and timely testing and production of concentrates and formulated products and all aspects of the tracking and quality control management system. The Manager supervises the work of laboratory technicians and coordinates production schedules with Cure/Vault regarding product inventory and availability. The Manager journals, monitors and tracks all observations in the company’s software seed-to-sale tracking system.
Major Areas Of Responsibility Include
  • Following Policies & Procedures for the daily operations and fully complying with state medical marijuana regulations
  • Maintaining testing and formulating operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing operational policies and procedures
  • Performing QA/QC through analytical testing for quality (potency, purity and microbial), consistency and efficacy
  • Coordinating third party state testing, analyzing and interpreting test results, and submitting to state regulatory authority for final approval
  • Working closely with production team on all elements of the testing and formulating processes
  • Designing extraction trials and experiments to optimize extraction purity and efficiency
  • Developing new extraction and purification techniques while keeping abreast of developments in the industry
  • Mastering various techniques for marijuana extraction, purification and infusion, including CO2 extraction, winterization and distillation
  • Developing expertise in testing and formulating methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of various compounds of cannabis
  • Responsible for inventory, recordkeeping and quality of product at all times, while maintaining inventory via seed-to-sale tracking and ensuring concentrate production meets production needs
  • Responsible for coordinating waste disposal of extraction waste
  • Facilitating and coordinating the operational requirements across the production workflow
  • Responsible for accurately weighing and recording all product weights and logging in inventory databases
  • Implementing cGMP-compliant processes within the laboratory
  • Working in a timely manner and striving to improve quality and maintain accuracy
  • Making sure that all concentrates are packaged, counted, sorted and labeled accurately
  • Managing day to day issues as they arise, requesting assistance as needed
  • Performing all other tasks and duties as assigned
Skills And Qualifications
  • All applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry or similar field
  • 3-5 years of experience in related position with an emphasis in an operations production / manufacturing environment
  • Experience must include hands-on responsibility for the full scope production activities, both operations and analysis
  • Experience with analytical testing required and HPLC- specific experience preferred
  • Experience preferred in cannabis oil extraction, including decarboxylation, supercritical CO2 extraction, winterization, distillation, and separation, including related equipment maintenance experience
  • Experience in various cannabis testing or formulation methods preferred
  • Experience with microbial culturing and identification preferred
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to interact professionally at all times, leading by example
  • Manage a controlled workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate about the importance of medical marijuana
  • Experience working in a GMP-regulated environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Must pass all required background checks
Travel %: 0-5%
Salary Range: $50,000-$70,000 annually
FLSA status: Non-exempt

  • The job requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, climbing, and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds (or more with a coworker). Good visual acuity, hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions with accuracy is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
