The Columbia County Mental Health Clinic is looking for a licensed and certified New York State professional nurse to perform community health nursing activities in the assessment of health needs and development of plans for individuals. Candidate must possess good knowledge of community resources and facilities in relation to the mentally or physically ill, in addition to working knowledge of State regulations concerning mental health clinic organizations. The position requires the candidate to possess the ability to follow medical treatment plana and maintain effective records. Utilizing the skill in the application of psychiatric nursing techniques, the candidate must be able to work calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Personal Characteristics:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of psychiatric nursing; good knowledge of community resources and facilities in relation to the mentally or physically ill; skill in the application of psychiatric nursing techniques; good knowledge of State regulations concerning mental health clinic organizations; ability to establish harmonious relations with clients and fellow members of the medical team; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written medical orders and instructions; ability to follow medical treatment plans and maintain effective records; ability to work calmly and effectively in emergency situations; good bedside manner; empathy for the problems of the mentally ill; willingness to travel to clients’ homes at unusual hours to provide specialized services.
Minimum Qualifications: Either
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and four (4) years of professional clinical nursing experience, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a position providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities or mental illness in a community setting (e.g., halfway house, visiting nurse, or community clinic);
OR
(b) Graduation from an approved three-year school of professional nursing and three (3) years experience as outlined in (a) above;
OR
(c) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college with an associate degree in nursing and four (4) years of experience as outlined in (a) above;
OR
(d) An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (a), (b) or (c), above.
Possession of a current valid license issued by the State of York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at the time of appointment and a current valid New York State motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of appointment.
