Job Summary: 

Columbia Gorge Community College is seeking a passionate and experienced Cross-Country Coach to lead our men's and women's cross-country teams in its inaugural season! The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting and building talented teams to compete in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) on an annual basis, providing leadership and mentorship to student-athletes, designing and implementing training programs, and fostering an inclusive team environment. The Coach will play a pivotal role in promoting the holistic development of our student-athletes both on and off the field, while representing the College and its mission. The ideal candidate will have a passion for collaborative team development, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to identify and recruit prospective student-athletes.

The Head coach will share in the program and departmental vision of fostering an environment that provides the best athletic and educational experience for our student athletes. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is considered to be part time.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the college's recruiting staff to identify and recruit talented student-athletes on an annual basis.
  2. Plan and lead practices, focusing on skill development, conditioning, and competition strategies.
  3. Know, understand, and follow all of the rules and regulations set forth by the governing Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
  4. Provide individualized instruction and feedback to student-athletes to nurture talent and support their growth.
  5. Coordinate with the Vice-President of Student Services and the Director of Athletics to schedule competitions, travel arrangements, and other logistical aspects of the cross-country season.
  6. Maintain program equipment inventory, upkeep, and assist in the improvement of facilities.
  7. Monitor and evaluate student-athletes' academic progress and ensure compliance with eligibility requirements.
  8. Participate in fundraising, community service, and other team related community activities.
  9. Participate in athletic department meetings and other conference wide and sport specific meetings.
  10. Foster a positive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect among student-athletes.
  11. Maintain open communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, college staff, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and support.
  12. Uphold the values and standards of the college's athletic program and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
  13. Work Hours: Variable, to include morning, afternoon, and weekend.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalancy. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school, college, or club level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes, while investing in their academic and personal development.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice sessions and competitions.
  • Experience promoting equity-minded and diversely represented communications and materials, experience in responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years)
  • Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
