PURPOSE
The instructional aide will assist classroom teachers in providing an appropriate education for students and support students social emotional well-being. The main responsibility of the Instructional Aide is to support students in the focus room and to respond to teacher requests for behavioral support. He or she will also pull small groups to provide instructional support to targeted intervention groups, and to assist on the playground or in the cafeteria as needed. He or she will need to be able to take instruction from classroom teachers and to be flexible in their schedule.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Prepare student material and reinforce previously taught material as described by the teacher.
  • Manage student behavior and classroom organization.
  • Implement classroom and school policies, rules, and/or regulations.
  • Actively supervise students in non-classroom settings such as lunchroom/playground supervision and bus arrival/dismissal.
  • Provide instructional to both large and small groups of students
  • Works well with students, has the ability to problem solve with students, can work with administration to provide behavioral supports for students that require additional attention and an area to decompress.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Building Principal and Assistant Principal
Supervises: None
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Missouri substitute teaching certificate; 36 college credit hours, or Associates degree, or 20-hour DESE sub course, or ParaPro assessment. Prior experience in a school setting and/or working with young people.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree, Missouri teaching certificate, previous teaching experience, ability to work in a team teaching setting; A strong desire to teach and be responsible for instructing children as assigned.
Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
