COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS is Hiring a Security & Emergency Services Manager Near Columbus, OH

SummaryOversees the day-to-day operation of the Security department for Nationwide Arena which includes close partnership with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Delaware North Sportservice. Manages the Security Staff on event days and non-event days. Responsible for the general Safety, Security and operational Policies and Procedures for the department as well as the training of Staff relative to these subject matters.
The Event Services & Security team consists of full-time and part-time Staff who cover roles associated with Guest Services (face-to-face people interaction) and Security (back of house as well as face-to-face people interaction). The Security & Emergency Services Manager is directly responsible for a staff of Full Time Hourly Security Guards and Leads aligned with the operation of the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week Security Operations Center. Part Time Hourly Security Guards and Supervisors covering all Back-of-House and scripted Front-of-House areas are part of this role’s responsibilities as well.
Additional responsibilities include the coordination of Third-Party Security to supplement event staffing as well as Emergency Services which includes Columbus Division of Police, Columbus Division of Fire and OhioHealth support. Serve as a conduit and thought partner for all related industry trends regarding Emergency Services as well as venue management Security.
The Security & Emergency Services Manager works closely with the Event Services Management team (key partners) to ensure venue wide coverage is aligned to support our Guests and event requirements. Supporting the collaborative environment of the department, the Security & Emergency Services Manager is assisted by the Event Services & Security Administrator who is a direct report.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties will be assigned.
  • Works with the Event Services Management team, Event Services & Security Administrator, Event Production Management team and other partners at multiple levels including Directors and Executives for special events to ensure departmental, event and Guest-facing Security needs are met and exceeded.
  • Plan and coordinate staffing for the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week Security Operations Center as well as staffing needs for each event relative to Security & Emergency Services. Maintain close oversight of any adjustments required with assistance from the Event Services & Security Administrator.
  • Ensures NHL Security-related protocols are upheld for all relative events. Coordinates with show/special event Security Managers, Tour Managers and Promoters for all event-related Security needs with a focus on preparation and communication to ensure Staff are prepared on show/special event days.
  • Coordinates with local officials such as the Columbus Division of Police, Columbus Division of Fire and OhioHealth as well as Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security on recommendations, procedures, threat assessments and implementation of all venue Security procedures as it relates to dignitary visits and signature events.
  • Briefs Security Staff including hired Third-Party Security and Emergency Services partners (Columbus Division of Police, Columbus Division of Fire and Ohio Health) prior to events regarding associated plans and expectations.
  • Highly engaged in the operation of events from a Security perspective in terms of evaluating the experience of our Guests and stakeholders, adjusting to on-site elements and ensuring all obligations are being met or exceeded.
  • Provides timely post-event feedback to the Director of Event Services & Security to ensure alignment with venue policies and procedures related but not limited to emergency situations, crowd management and Security.
  • Regularly evaluates the technical knowledge and performance of those individuals associated with the Security department. Organizes and conducts meetings with Staff to ensure cohesion. Determines employment status based on Staff alignment with policies and procedures. Makes Staff recognition for high performance and milestones a priority.
  • Responsible for all content associated with Security department standard operating guidelines which includes policies and procedures related to the operation of the Security Operations Center as well as general departmental topics and Security related event positions.
  • Develops and manages relationships with Vendors, Contractors, Staff and departments tied to the overall Security of Nationwide Arena including the service yard, loading dock, attached garage and perimeter areas.
  • Oversees daily and routine building inspections, access control components, CCTV systems, risk assessment and vulnerabilities, fire alarm systems and incident reporting for Nationwide Arena. Engages appropriate personnel when repairs and upgrades are necessary.
  • Responds to all emergencies and provides guidance to the Security department during normal business hours, non-business hours, holidays and weekends as required. Assists with emergency procedures including venue evacuations.
  • Assists with executing Security department goals and projects. Partners with the Director of Event Services & Security to develop and strategize these efforts.
  • Serve as a beacon for Staff excellence, harboring a spirit of openness to all those interacted with.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • The Security & Emergency Services Manager manages a staff of Full Time Hourly Security Guards and Leads as well as Part Time Hourly Security Guards and Supervisors. Serving as a direct report is the Event Services & Security Administrator who assists this role with various support tasks for the department.
  • Overseeing Third-Party Security to supplement event staffing as well as Emergency Services which includes Columbus Division of Police, Columbus Division of Fire and OhioHealth support is a key aspect of this role. Serve as a conduit and thought partner for all related industry trends regarding Emergency Services as well as venue management Security.
  • The ability to carry oneself as a subject matter expert as well as a key stakeholder within the Event Services & Security team is essential. Serving as a positive role model for all those within Columbus Blue Jackets Arena Management and Columbus Blue Jackets as well as with on-site Corporate Partners and Vendors is always expected.

Education And/or ExperienceBachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university; minimum of five years of experience operating a Security department at a Manager level or above within a major event venue (10,000 capacity) required; training in safety, security or law enforcement; experience with Simplex Fire Alarm systems, building automation systems, CCTV and access control systems is required; supervisory experience is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
Computer SkillsTo perform this role successfully, an individual should have considerable knowledge of utilizing Microsoft Office and computer applications related to presentation creation and staffing systems including payroll and scheduling software. Experience with using technology to communicate with Staff directly in various methods (phone, email, online surveys, mobile applications, etc.) is required. Knowledge of access control systems, CCTV systems and general knowledge of computer applications related to Simplex Fire Alarm and building automation systems is required.
