POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the work activities of the Environmental Aides to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions in the Hospital and other hospital owned/leased facilities. Provides direction to develop and evaluate Environmental Services personnel and maintains proper and qualified staffing. Coordinates some activities of the Environmental Services Department with those of other Hospital departments. Maintains and implements policies and procedures related to department

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Possess knowledge and/or experience in housekeeping, biomedical, safety codes, fire codes, Title 22, and Infection Control policies. High school graduate. Be able to communicate effectively with personnel. Possess a valid California Driver’s License.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop/update cleaning procedures for each distinct area of the hospital. Review procedures with Infection Control Preventionist for approval.
  2. Instructs and trains employees under supervision in the use of new equipment and cleaning methods.
  3. Prepares daily assignment schedules to include established routines, as well as special areas to be cleaned and maintained.· Forecasts and anticipates department staffing needs related to fluctuations in patient census; sufficient staff are available at all times to manage department workload. Tasks, responsibilities and authority equitably delegated to staff according to their knowledge and expertise.
  4. Tours hospital periodically, covering each assigned area to observe cleaning crews at work and to determine that instructions are followed, and safety rules are observed.
  5. Recommends personnel actions such as hours worked and attendance.
  6. Keeps records as directed by Infection Control Preventionist.
  7. Plans, implements and maintains staffing pattern for the Department.
  8. Assists in maintenance of all statistical data and reporting systems, as required, including linen studies, square footage studies, productivity reports, etc.
  9. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field in order to enhance expertise.
  10. Consistently combines ethical judgment with technical skills within the policy and legal guidelines of the Hospital.
  11. Assists in special projects and research to update techniques, study cost savings, etc.
  12. Other duties as assigned by Infection Control Preventionist.

Management:

  1. Manage the overall operational responsibilities and activities of the department. ·
  2. Demonstrate a cost-conscious attitude, as reflected by analysis prior to approval/purchase of department equipment and supplies. Organize an effective system of inventory/supply control. Cooperate with periodic Hospital inventory audits by submitting department equipment/supplies report within required time frame.
  3. Recommend, develop, and implement new policies, functions, and services, as well as continually seeking improvements to existing programs.
  4. Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals. Work schedule will vary as needed to meet requirements of the responsibilities and duties assigned.
  5. Work with Human Resources to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ an appropriate number of employees.
  6. Will provide draft evaluations for Infection Control Preventionist.
  7. Provide effective performance feedback through employee evaluations, recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  8. Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
  9. Maintain open communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.
  10. Establish a departmental Quality Assurance/ Performance Improvement Program that is consistent with the Hospital program. Assure that the QA/PI is submitted quarterly to the Infection Control Preventionist.
