Colwill Engineering, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Estimator to join our team. This position will assume a leadership role, provide team guidance, mentorship, and support, while organizing and implementing estimating activities involved in pursing projects, preparing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, cost studies and competitive bids. This position is located in our Apopka, FL Office, Monday through Friday.

We are currently offering a competitive pay range for this full-time position, Monday through Friday. (In-person)

Key Measurables:

The success of this role can be gauged by the following metrics:

  • Participates in business development activities to identify, target and secure project opportunities aligned with local and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Prepare estimates of high accuracy, reliability, and caliber to facilitate revenue goal attainment.
  • Estimates are prepared in a timely fashion to be completed well in advance of deadlines.
  • Consistently maintains the files for each of the respective jobs that the individual has estimated.
  • Adheres to predetermined corporate requirements for total volume bid, time allowed for each bid, and success rate for landing projects.
  • Meets weekly targets for building assemblies/data base for Accubid.

What this Role Will Do:

  • Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, or general bid work.
  • Review proposal specifications / drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Develop superior relationships with clients and suppliers to position company as the electrical contractor of choice.
  • Mentor and train other estimators on the team.
  • Prepare disciplined estimates by calculating complete scope of work.
  • Maintain document files as back-up for estimate figures, including current / accurate pricing information from suppliers through direct contact, estimating software, price lists, etc.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials, as needed.
  • Attend pre-bid site visits.
  • Stay current with changes to Accubid and attend additional training courses as requested.
  • Provide clear direction and training to estimating team members and distribute workload to capitalize on individual and group strength, while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities.
  • Ability to handle related complex issues and share information with team members, in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimate for projects.
  • Supervises quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate, while ensuring notation is made within the documentation for hand-over to the project team
  • Review discipline specific bid documents and assesses potential risk.
  • Participate in business development activities to identify, target and secure project opportunities aligned with local and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Prepare accurate quotes, which are reliable and calculated to facilitate revenue goal attainment.
  • Ability to consistently maintain the bid pursuit documents for each of the respective jobs that the individual has estimated.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and determine the potential cost savings while communicating these opportunities to the customer and EOR.
  • Build and maintain assembly database for Accubid while making suggestions to management on ways to streamline the bid process efficiently through use of the estimating software.
  • Other additional initiatives assigned by the Chief Estimator.

You’ll be great fit if:

  • At least 5 years’ progressive experience within a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a construction, engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience within a leadership role in this regard.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Accubid, Bluebeam, Procore, and the MS Office suite of products.
  • E.T. certification, a plus.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces as required for pre-bid job walks.
  • Proven skills to deal with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to compute percentages, costs, gross margins, and gross profit dealing with WIP, material estimates and deadlines.
