Commerce City is Hiring a Building Inspector III Near Denver, CO

General PurposeAre you a master of building trades with a knack for codes and a love for conflict resolution? Do you have a passion for ensuring everything is up to standard and love sharing your expertise? We have the perfect role for you!
As a Building Inspector III, you'll operate with minimal direction, armed with your vast knowledge of building trades, laws, practices, procedures, and computer software. You'll be the go-to person for providing training and technical assistance to our building inspectors, and you'll deftly mediate disputes between contractors and inspectors to ensure everything is up to code.
What You'll Do: Inspection Extraordinaire: Independently perform complex, multi-disciplinary, technical, and specialized building inspections, ensuring everything complies with established standards, ordinances, and state building codes.
Mentor and Coach: Guide our inspectors by observing their performance, providing top-notch technical assistance, and suggesting ways to enhance their skills.
Conflict Mediator: Step in when disputes arise on construction sites, bringing your wisdom and mediation skills to ensure smooth resolutions.
Field Guru: Conduct field inspections during all construction phases, ensuring that projects comply with Colorado building codes and approved blueprints.
Consultant: Offer your expertise to architects, contractors, and owners, recommending corrective measures and preparing meticulous reports.

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience. The hiring range is $33.03 - $41.29/hour.

High School diploma or GED. Some college coursework is preferred. Requires four years of journey-level experience working in one or more building trades and at least four years of experience working as a Building Inspector I or Plans Examiner I or two years of experience as a Building Inspector II or Plans Examiner II.
It also requires one of the following:
  • International Code Council combination Residential / Commercial Building Inspector certification and at least two (2) other International Code Council combination Residential / Commercial Inspector certifications in any of the following disciplines: Plumbing, Electrical or Mechanical Inspector, or Commercial Plans Examiner.
  • State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician or Plumbing license and two (2) International Code Council Residential or Commercial Inspector certifications in a discipline other than the license category.
  • State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician or Plumbing license and two (2) International Code Council combination Residential / Commercial Inspector certifications in a discipline other than the license category.
  • State of Colorado Master Electrician or Plumbing license and one (1) International Code Council combination Residential / Commercial Inspector certification in a discipline other than the license category and one (1) Residential Inspector certification in a discipline other than the license category.
An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of all building trades; Colorado building codes concerning new construction, alterations, additions & changes in occupancy of existing structures; public relations.
  • Skill in operation of personal computer; use of calculator &/or adding machine.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, cite violations & take necessary corrective action; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; handle routine & sensitive contacts with & inquiries from contractors, government officials & general public.
  • Solid knowledge of building practices, including new methods of construction and materials
  • Effective writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and convey code provisions to construction professionals and the general public
  • Ability to organize tasks and work environment to maximize efficiency with attention to customer service
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers and construction/design professionals, promoting a team environment
