Salary (from) $12.36 per hour part-time Description The University Police Department (UPD) at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for multiple Security Officer (Security Officer III) positions. These part-time positions will provide security services for Old Dominion University. Other duties include: monitor main and satellite campus grounds to ensure staff, students and visitors are safe, make inspections of designated priority areas on a routine basis, and identify and assist with the investigation of minor or suspicious matters.

Requirements Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Some security experience. Some training in security work. Valid drivers license and insurable record. Ability to obtain the DCJS CSO Campus Security Officer Certification within one year of employment. Basic familiarity with personal computers to include Microsoft Office, Outlook etc. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks and reports. Ability to perform essential physical requirements which include standing and/or walking for extended periods. Ability to perform required tasks during periods of inclement weather. Ability to maintain a neat and clean appearance/uniform and report for duty on time. Ability to provide security services which includes working inside and outside of building during various hours of the day.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates degree. Member of professional security organization i.e., ASIS International, CCP (Certified Protection Professional). Some experience and training as a Campus Security Officer. Some experience working with security related technologies, surveillance cameras, access control etc. Self-directed and ability to take direction.

Conditions of Employment: Must work a rotating shift schedule which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Some overtime required. Must successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal background investigation. This position is considered essential personnel for emergency conditions/inclement weather and expected to report to duty during those conditions.

Salary: $12.36 per hour part-time. Hourly (wage) employees are restricted to working 29 hours per week on average or 1500 hours in total between May 1 to April 30. This position does not have insurance, retirement, or leave.
