Responsibilities

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing emotional and spiritual support through pastoral care services to patients their families and hospital staff as a member of the Spiritual Care Resources Team. The Chaplain utilizes appropriate pastoral ministry approaches to support patients residents and family members during a period of illness injury or grief.

Demonstrates understanding of customer relationships and extends pastoral care when indicated to employees physicians volunteers students and others.

Essential Functions:

  • This position is responsible for assisting the Director in providing emotional and spiritual support through pastoral care services to patients their families and hospital staff as a member of the Spiritual Care Resources Team. The Chaplain utilizes appropriate pastoral ministry approaches to support patients residents and family members during a period of illness injury or grief.   • Provides pastoral care and supports patients residents and family members during a period of illness injury loss or grief.
  • Provides spiritual/religious resources appropriate to the care of patients families and staff.
  • Triages and manages crises in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Provides spiritual care that respects diversity and differences including but not limited to culture gender sexual orientation and spiritual/religious practices.
  • Facilitates logical reflection in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Formulates and utilizes spiritual assessments in order to contribute to plans of care.
  • Understands and utilizes the problem solving process for patient and resident caseload.
  • Maintains current documentation on patient and resident caseload and record keeping responsibilities.
  • Manages and submits weekly reports of assisting patients family clergy and staff with spiritual care needs.
  • Networks with community clergy on a continuum of spiritual care.
  • Develops coordinates and facilitates public worship/spiritual practices appropriate to diverse settings and needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Completion of or working towards Clinical Pastoral Education preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology Behavioral Science Ministry or a related field desired
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • One (1) year of experience as a Healthcare Chaplain in a hospital and/or long term care facility preferred

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Ordained Christian Ministers preferred
  • Certification in NACC (National Associate of Catholic Chaplains) or ACPE (Association for Clinical Pastoral Education preferred
  • Evidence of ongoing education following graduation preferred

Required Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills required. Understanding of the grief process crisis intervention and group dynamics
  • Must possess the ability to complete spiritual assessments document plans of care as well as provide and evaluate service.
  • Organizational and speaking ability
