Commonwealth Electrical Technologies is seeking a full-time Payroll and Human Resources Administrator to thrive in a busy office and provide proactive and comprehensive support. Qualified candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication skills, and they must be proactive in their approach to all work.

The Payroll and Human Resources Administrator is responsible for the operational aspects of the organization's payroll and supports the human resources department in various administrative tasks. Responsibilities include processing employee paychecks, updating payroll records, and managing timesheets. The administrator works closely with the HR team to ensure accurate employee data, tax withholdings, and benefits deductions. The role may also include assisting with new employee onboarding, documentation, and other HR-related activities. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Process and maintain accurate payroll records for multiple companies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Calculate and process employee paychecks, ensuring accurate deductions for taxes, benefits, and other withholdings.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll information, including new hires, terminations, and employment status or compensation changes.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports and summaries as required.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to ensure proper accounting and reconciliation of payroll transactions.
  • Assist with making the payroll system as efficient and automated as possible.
  • When necessary, assist with implementing a new payroll system.
  • Work with project managers to meet general contractors' and state prevailing wage standards.
  • Enter timesheet and job information into the payroll system weekly to ensure accurate payroll and billing.
  • Receive expense reports and process reimbursements appropriately.

Human Resources

  • Resolve any error reports related to retirement plan contributions and deductions.
  • Collaborate with the retirement plan provider to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee contributions.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in labor laws, regulations, and best practices related to payroll and human resources.
  • Assist with annual ACA requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for human resources documentation.
  • Assist in apprenticeship programs and licensing.
  • Receive and process paid time off requests.

Hiring Requirement/Preferences:

  • Prior experience in payroll administration is required.
  • Knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in payroll and human resources software and tools.
  • Experience in report generation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • An Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Payroll, Benefits, and/or Human Resources certification is a plus.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
