Description
The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant in Facilities Administration. This position is nonpartisan and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.
For this opening, expertise and experience in a variety of professional and academic fields is appropriate. In addition to the knowledge and skills described below, the applicant should have demonstrated education or experience in conducting various types of research, programmatic and financial analysis, audits, or investigations.
The Legislative Research Commission provides staff support to the Kentucky General Assembly. The agency offers unique opportunities to people seeking fulfilling, challenging, and rewarding careers. LRC staff members provide diverse services and are united by the common purpose of supporting the branch of government closest to the people.
This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits, including health and life insurance; retirement plan; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with prior approval.
Job Duties:
  • Greet and assist visitors.
  • Work with the committee system application to input information relative to committee meetings during session and the interim.
  • Maintain the daily/weekly calendar for committee meetings and outside groups.
  • Schedule meetings and handle room reservations.
  • Maintain rooms’ agreement with outside groups.
  • Distribute correspondence and relative information to lobbyists and interest groups.
  • Answer the telephone, take messages, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Complete forms and respond to requests.
  • Copy, scan, and fax.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and keyboard skills.
  • Ability to multitask at a high and efficient level.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet specific deadlines.
  • Ability to uphold expectations of a nonpartisan staff member.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: No direct experience is needed. Limited relevant/business experience and business knowledge is required, or equivalent academic training.
