Commonwealth of Kentucky is Hiring a Social Service Specialist Near Louisville, KY

DescriptionThe Office of Inspector General (OIG) performs many varied functions for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. OIG has six Divisions, Division of Regulated Child Care, Division of Health Care, Certificate of Need, Division of Kentucky Health Information Exchange, Division of Telehealth, and the Division of Audits and Investigations. These Divisions cover a wide variety of job tasks and duties in varied settings throughout Kentucky, which include inspecting and licensing child care and healthcare facilities and services, and conducting investigations of complaints in those facilities, as well as conducting Medicaid fraud and other types of complaints for the Cabinet.
As a Social Service Specialist you would evaluate and monitor social service programs within Long Term Care facilities. Perform duties statewide on an as needed basis. One of the primary duties of the position is to conduct complaint investigations for medically related social services and resident rights. Serve as a member of a survey team which inspects for licensing or complaints of health care facilities for the Office of Inspector General.

This position does require extensive in-state travel, overtime, weekend work, and overnight stays depending on the type of survey and the location of the facility being inspected. It also requires the physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys and inspections.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts licensure and certification inspections.
  • Investigates complaints of regulatory violations in healthcare facilities
  • Creates written documents detailing findings of non-compliance in healthcare facilities and descriptions of information gathered.
  • Evaluates and monitors social service programs within Long Term Care facilities and perform duties statewide on an as needed basis. Extensive travel required.
  • Performs as a member of a survey team, which inspects for licensure or complaints of Health Care facilities for the Office of Inspector General.
  • Is a member of team for certification and re-licensure; complaint investigations; medically related social services and resident rights.
  • Participates in conferences, webinars, and other types of training to improve knowledge and skills related to regulation of healthcare facilities.
  • Is a team leader or member for certification and re-licensure; complaint investigations for medically related social services and resident rights.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and submits complete, correct packets and paperwork regarding healthcare survey results and prepares written statement of deficiencies.
  • Determines compliance through interpretation of regulations and follows Division and regional guidelines, policies and procedures.

Minimum RequirementsEDUCATION: A master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family therapy or a related field
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of professional social work experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree supplemented by five years of professional social work experience will substitute for the primary education and experience requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): If employed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services or the Department of Juvenile Justice, an employee in this job classification must furnish to the appointing authority within one month of employment documentation that he/she possesses a valid driver's license. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
