DESCRIPTION OF WORKYour primary responsibility will involve evaluating design plans for the positioning of ITS equipment, incorporating line-of-sight calculations and device placement. Additional duties entail gathering and assessing data on roadway geometry, functionality, and environmental factors to recommend strategies for enhancing highway safety and traffic flow, particularly focusing on traffic control devices. Field inspections and testing of traffic signal installations, as well as analysis of traffic control in work zones and incidents, are also part of the duties, along with engaging with stakeholders through diverse communication channels. Moreover, close collaboration with municipalities is crucial to ensure adherence to Pennsylvania regulations and policies. Utilizing various applications to manage and analyze data, and compiling reports using standard PennDOT Traffic Engineering Forms, will be a key aspect of the position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, at the discretion of supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists ; or
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline .
Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
