Commonwealth of VA Careers is Hiring a Full Stack Application and Data Developer, School of Dentistry Near Richmond, VA

Primary Purpose:
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry’s Office of Information Technology is seeking applicants for a dedicated and versatile full-time full-stack application developer to work with internal stakeholders and the Director of Application Development to develop new software applications, update/modify existing applications, and engineer data models and datasets to power these applications. The application developer processes users’ needs to customize web applications, scripts, and database queries, designs prototype applications, and implements and tests course code. The position will work with a diverse range of technology program areas and troubleshoot existing applications and respond to customer needs regarding modifications, data feeds, and requirements gathering. The position will work in a collaborative environment to create an extract, transform and load (ETL) pipeline and data warehouse to be used for business intelligence. This position will work in a team environment with career development and mentoring opportunities. The position will work within a multi-team environment that collaborates with other I.T. teammates, VCU Technology Services, vendors, clinical technology specialists, faculty, staff, and students daily.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with senior leadership, end users, electronic health record and clinical systems analysts, and application development staff to evaluate business requirements, advise on appropriate application and data strategy, and develop systems and solutions
  • Design and develop software solutions to meet customer needs by creating and implementing the source code of new applications
  • Design, develop, feed, and maintain databases, data structure, and data feeds from various sources, including the School of Dentistry and the University, using Oracle, SQL Server, Tableau, and Snowflake
  • Evaluate existing Crystal reports and edit or replace with web applications or Tableau dashboards
  • Evaluate existing applications and perform updates and modifications
  • Develop, consume, and integrate APIs
  • Implement secure coding practices, including authentication and authorization, principle of least privilege, minimum necessary, input validation, and database security
  • Test, debug, and document source code
  • Pull and commit code through source/version control system (Git)
  • Analyze, investigate, and implement data management, quality, and improvements with business stakeholders
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement in application development practices
