Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The role of the Treatment Director is to administrate, direct and supervise the provision of mental health and evaluation services to residents at the Bon Air Juvenile Corrections Center (JCC) and detention/intake facilities in order to promote their well-being and rehabilitation as well as reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of adolescent development and psychopathology as evidenced by an advanced degree in psychology.
  • Considerable mental health treatment skills and experience.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals and others involved with the care and treatment of high risk adolescents.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader in an institutional environment.
  • Ability to direct and supervise staff under his/her supervision.

Additional Considerations

  • Doctorate and/or experience in clinical/counseling psychology with appropriate internship/residency, or advanced graduate degree in related behavioral health field;
  • Licensure as a clinical psychologist or in their respective discipline/field in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Experience providing mental health and crisis intervention services to adolescents, experience working with adolescents in an institutional setting and working with youth who have juvenile justice involvement;
  • Clinical and administrative supervision experience;
  • Certification as a sex offender treatment provider.
