Community Action Organization of Western New York is Hiring a Principal Near Blasdell, NY

SUMMARY – solely responsible for the management and supervision of the center-based activities an`2d day-to-day operations. Management functions must support the overall goal of school readiness for children enrolled in Head Start Academies, as outlined in the Head Start Act and HHS Roadmap to Excellence. Maintain compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and applicable child care standards.
Annual Salary: $50,300ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
v Work with Administrator and Human Resources Department to recruit, hire and train all center staff.
v Manage performance of all center staff. This includes regular feedback on work performance, written annual evaluations of performance, appropriate use of disciplinary procedures and the development and monitoring of performance improvement plans as necessary.
v Schedule staff in order to appropriately meet the needs of children in the center and in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and licensing requirements. At centers where collaborations exist, coordinate schedules of collaborative partners with Head Start staff schedules to optimize both the children’s educational experiences and collaborative benefits.
v Serve as liaison between center staff and Service Area Managers.
v Monitor, track and report staff attendance for payroll purposes. Maintain records and be aware of staff leave time balances.
v Monitor activities of staff to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, state licensing requirements and agency’s policies/procedures.
v Communicate information to staff as appropriate regarding policies, procedures, processes, new programs or projects, changes in job responsibilities. Establish and maintain effective communication between/among center staff and managers.
v Work with Education Service Area Manager to understand and develop criteria for quality teaching staff and evaluate staff based on the criteria.
v Implement, monitor and evaluate curricula with assistance from Education Service Area Manager and Education Specialist. Attend meetings and training sessions as needed to remain current in early childhood development and educational best practices.
v Serve as additional resource for classroom teachers for information on curriculum and other areas of childhood development.
v Observe classroom activities on a regular basis and provide feedback to teaching staff as appropriate. Work in collaboration with Early Childhood Administrator, Education Service Area Manager and Education Coordinators as needed
v Work with appropriate staff to assist teaching staff with management of inappropriate classroom behavior and challenging behaviors with children.
v Schedule and monitor training hours for teaching staff.
v Monitor accuracy of student roster, update information, utilize roster to complete statistics as needed for reports.
v Develop and maintain calendar of center activities.
v Monitor center for compliance with health, safety, fire and occupancy regulations. Maintain current permits and licenses as required. Ensure corrective actions are taken as required to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Accurately complete daily, weekly and monthly reports as required. This includes daily attendance reports, USDA meal counts, monthly reports and weekly activity reports and other reports as required by the Administrator, content area managers, including compilation of health, nutrition, education, family/community and disability services data. Attend Center Director meetings as scheduled (twice/monthly), serve on committees as assigned. Record and resolve incidents involving any child, staff member, volunteer, parent at the center. Document incidents and submit to Administrator. Monitor facility and submit maintenance request as necessary and follow up on the request.
Other Duties: Work collaboratively with Family Community Service Area Manager to perform all parent involvement and community outreach activities; including participation in parent committee meetings, enrollment processes, recruitment activities, preparation of Community Assessment, planning of parent programs and all other parent and community related functions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – The Center Director is responsible for the supervision of Head Start/EHS teaching, nutrition, maintenance, health, mental health staff and volunteers in the center. Center Director works with collaborative partners and with school districts.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree with a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Minimum of three (3) years teaching, supervisory and administrative experience in a child development center or Head Start with increasing levels of job responsibility.
