We are hiring a Housing Inspection Specialist to join our team! The Housing Inspection Specialist is responsible for case managing, relocating displaced individuals, and resolving any issue a tenant may have with a landlord. This position requires traveling within the city of Milwaukee and conducting in-home inspections to verify code violations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with city inspector to resolve code violation issues.
  • Assess housing needs for clients that are displaced.
  • Answer tenant/landlord calls as needed
  • Work with landlords to bring dwellings to code compliance.
  • Maintain case files with sensitive information relating to clients
  • Comply with city-required reports.
  • Provide advocacy services to individuals who are encountering housing-related problems
  • Ability to work individually on home visits to assist clients and city inspectors with relocation
  • Ability to work within the community to provide linkages with clients and needed resources
  • Work closely with city inspectors to enroll clients in rent abatement/rent withholding program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with tenant landlord laws are required. This includes keeping abreast of any changes to local, state, and federal laws related to landlord–tenant law.
  • Knowledge and experience of utilizing community services and housing resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable in conducting in-home visits for homes that may be in disrepair.
  • He/She must also be able to work within the community independently and provide sound judgment to tenants and landlords and at times may be required to appear in small claims cases.
  • Personal vehicle required, with valid driver's license and current auto insurance coverage.
  • Required local travel within the city of Milwaukee

Physical Requirements

The position requires driving, navigating stairs, bending, stooping and infrequent lifting up to 15 Lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule Requirement

Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
