    SUMMARY: To instruct students with knowledge and skills of related physical education activities in a positive environment that promotes healthy lifestyles. To cultivate talents of pupils in physical achievement including team physical activities in accordance with each pupils ability.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Valid Illinois Educator License appropriate for assigned grade level and /or subject area.
    • Physical Education endorsement required.
    • Health Education endorsement preferred.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Must be NCLB Highly Qualified
    • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
    • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
    • Instructs pupils on movement skills and concepts needed to engage in health-enhancing physical activity.
    • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, creative movement, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
    • Provides individualized and small-group instruction that supports student achievement of and maintaining of a health-enhancing level of physical fitness based upon continual self-assessment and adapting the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible.
    • Implement various programs designed to achieve the educational objectives of the District and state learning goals.
    • Works collaboratively with staff who support adaptive physical education student needs.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of rules, safety, and strategies during physical activity and provides appropriate safety instruction.
    • Instructs pupils to develop team-building skills by working with others through physical activity.
    • Makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
    • Provides understanding of health promotion and prevention and treatment of illness and injury.
    • Instructs students on human body systems and factors that influence growth and development.
    • Instructs students on the effective communication and decision-making skills that promote and enhance student health and well-being.
    • Maintains equipment storage rooms, use of school-owned property, and required inventory records.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
    • Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports.
    • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
    • Communicates effectively with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
    • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    • Cooperates with school administration in providing specially performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events.
    • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
    • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
    • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.
