DESCRIPTION:
The Mental Health Specialist II is responsible for providing individual and group counseling as needed. Therapist uses a holistic approach to ensure that clients therapeutic issues are being addressed and makes referrals for other issues that client may have as they present. Provides care primarily for the following groups: • Infant • Pediatrics • Adolescent • Adult • Geriatric. Reviews Foster Children referrals for Mental Health Assessment and Intervention and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care placement. Performs psycho-educational assessments for students, as needed. Provides timely access primarily for foster kids to primary preventative Behavioral Health Services. Provides high quality of services at all times in an outpatient behavioral health care component, with emphasis on age appropriate bio-psychosocial issues.. Provides counseling services to adult and adolescent and their families. Provides consultation to clinicians, primary health physicians and other staff within Behavioral Health Services. Participates in orientation and training related to patient care with emphasis on job enhancement skills. Maintains a daily log of productivity and submits a monthly statistical report to the Program Coordinator. Attends Our Kids Staffing & Meetings. Facilitates daily and weekly education and counseling groups with foster parents and the children. Conducts psychosocial assessments on patients admitted. Collaborates with DCF and Our Kids and other community agencies. Assures that clients’ charts are active and updated in a timely manner and that they are sequentially ordered. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings for the purposes of designing interventions to address overall needs of individual foster care children. Coordinates discharge plans. Identifies children’s medical home and makes appropriate referrals of clients for behavioral health care services. Participates in-patient and family education. Monitors client’s ongoing needs, goals and progress. Understands, applies knowledge pertaining to Community Health of South Dade, Inc. Behavioral Health Care Center Policies and Procedures at all times. Adheres to professional and ethical boundaries. Demonstrates knowledge of current Behavioral Health Care practice ensuring proper judgment and Decision-making guidelines. Utilizes available time in a manner in which is consistent and emphasizes department compliance. Performs all daily activities, ensuring accuracy and professionalism. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduated from an accredited university with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling or related field. Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. Proficiency in verbal and written skills. Must be computer literate. Possesses basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Possesses knowledge of FCBS, BHRS computer system. Performs psycho-educational assessments. Administers behavioral rating scales, client certification and Mental Health Outcome Measures Input Form, Target Population Enrollment Form and documentation forms. Design interventions and coordinates multi-disciplinary team meetings. Possesses knowledge of confidentiality and patient’s rights.
