Job Title Family Outreach Coordinator
Summary It is the responsibility of this position to develop a family outreach program in order to establish communication, build relationships, and maintain mutual understanding among school, community, and home. The Family Outreach Coordinator will reduce existing barriers to parental/family participation in the school and build capacity for parental involvement. The role of the Family Outreach Coordinator is part of a comprehensive system effort to increase the academic achievement and sense of belonging for students, and to strengthen the relationship between our families and our district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)
  • Oversees the implementation of the family outreach program and makes recommendations for further program development.
  • Analyzes current budgetary needs in order to establish, create and maintain financial resources related to the program.
  • Determines current and future needs of the program and assists the Director of Bilingual Services in the selection and assignment of departmental staff members.
  • Connects families with appropriate school personnel, resources, services, and school programs (tutoring, EL services, sports/activities, counselors, social workers, deans, etc.).
  • Works with students regarding their attendance at school and ways to motivate them in this process.
  • Determines supports and resources needed to support regular attendance and connects families as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and conducts home visits as needed to support home-school connections, addresses attendance concerns, and provides other family supports.
  • Tracks data and analyzes metrics in order to determine interventions and measure their effectiveness in coordination with building SIT teams. These data include but are not limited to attendance, academic progress, and student/parent survey data.
  • Collaborates with staff members and administrators to engage parents in the school environment.
  • Assists the school with securing important documentation from parents, such as registration information and parent surveys, as needed.
  • Leads development and implementation of parent/family education opportunities, leveraging internal resources and community partners, including but not limited to parent education workshops.
  • Engages parents/families in BPAC or other leadership opportunities, and regularly attends BPAC meetings.
  • Educates parents on the Home Access Center so that they can independently check student grades, attendance, and discipline.
  • Assists students and parents with accessing and understanding progress reports, assessments, school improvement, school programming, curricular offerings, and school policies/procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records of parent visits and parent communication.
  • Articulates school programs by communicating with and visiting feeder schools and community organizations in all school communities.
  • Supports and serves as a liaison to material resources at the school, such as the Tiendita and WeGo Boutique.
  • Serves as the conduit between families and the Student Services Department to ensure students have access to mental health resources.
  • Assists families in identifying goals for their students, and refers families to internal and external resources to support their students’ goals.
  • Documents student goals and monitors their progress throughout the year.
  • Assists with language interpretation for work performed within scope of job duties.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone
Education, Certification, And Experience
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in human services, social work, child development, or related field preferred
  • Previous family liaison or social work experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license and car insurance
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in Spanish
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
  • Ability to work independently, stay on task, multi-task, problem-solve, and take responsibility to complete assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner
