Community Housing Solutions [of Tacoma] is Hiring a Non-Profit Program Coordinator Near Tacoma, WA

About This Job

The CHS Program Coordinator must have a varied and eclectic skillset. The position is part sales, part nonprofit management, part work with individuals with disabilities, and part landlord. This is not a counseling position, but it does require the ability to mediate and minimize conflict between participants with disabilities. This position is funded through financial reserves of the non-profit, so it is important that work is impactful and efficient for the job to be sustained. Candidate should be looking for 4 to 10 hours of work per week. The candidate should desire a part-time position, or be an energetic person who already works a full-time job. This would be an excellent job for a retiree looking to make extra money.

About Community Housing Solutions (CHS)

CHS was started in 2017 by a small group of parents and family members who needed a housing solution for individuals with disabilities/mental illness who are capable of living independently but need a group living situation for social support and affordability. CHS currently has two houses with 11 individuals in South and Central Tacoma. Individuals served include those with schizophrenia, developmental disabilities, and high-functioning autism. The houses do not have on-site supervision and depend on CHS to visit the homes two to three times a week.

Minimum qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. College course work or experience with social services or marketing are desirable. Social media savvy and knowhow are also desirable. Experience with tenant-landlord relations is desirable. Ability to relate to and patiently work with individuals with disabilities or mental illness is an absolute must. This candidate must have sound judgment and the ability to quickly and efficiently provide conflict management. Ability to set limits to avoid time management issues is essential. Living in or around South or Central Tacoma is a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken communication is a must. A stable work history with an average tenure of two years at each position is desirable. The candidate must be personable and outgoing with the ability to sell the program while performing community outreach.

The Program Coordinator will be making occasional routine and exceedingly rare emergency visits to houses and must have reliable transportation.

Reports to:

The coordinator will report to and work closely with the CHS Board Chair who is currently its only volunteer. Program coordinator will provide support when the Chair is on vacation and sometimes out of communication range.

Salary:

$25 per hour. Mileage compensation provided for travel to and between locations. No benefits beyond state mandated sick leave.

Hours per week:

4 to 10 hours per week on a variable and flexible schedule. Some work involves in-person visits to homes in the community. Ability to, on very rare occasions, go to houses to respond to “broken water pipe” type emergencies when Chair is unavailable. Chair plans on being out of town about one-quarter of the time but can handle most situations by phone.

Focus:

Emphasis will be on creating housing and improving CHS financial stability. CHS is a very small non-profit that will allow the candidate to learn and practice all facets of non-profit operation. Responsibilities listed will likely be tailored to the individual and the working relationship with the Chair of The Board of Directors. Not all of the below listed responsibilities will be assigned.

Responsibilities:

*Interface with participants to resolve interpersonal issues that arise between individuals with disabilities who are living in the same household (when Chair is not available).

*Provide strict adherence to scope of service to avoid providing unsustainable services.

*Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs, including practical application of MS Office suite, Facebook, and Zoom.

*Conduct outreach to promote partnerships between outside organizations and CHS that create new cooperative housing sites.

*Maintain social media presence to communicate with the public to enhance fundraising efforts.

*Assist with creating and maintaining transition plans for participants who are dependent upon parents and other family caregivers who have no plans for when the caregiver is no longer able to provide assistance.

*Assist with screening new participants who apply for housing and arranging tours and roommate meetings for approval of new applicants.

*Perform phone and in person outreach to existing or prospective donors or grantors to maintain relationships and increase contribution.

*Work under the supervision of the CHS Board Secretary and Chair to support Board of Directors meetings by creating and disseminating materials and taking notes.
