Responsibilities:

The Security Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for security services, monitoring multiple alarms, and utilizing the Public Address (PA) system to make emergency announcements. Accountable for dispatching of appropriate security personnel and outside agencies, and providing general clerical assistance.

Accountabilities

1. Answers all inbound calls and directs them to the appropriate staff. Completes overhead paging in accordance with current policy and procedures.
2. Prioritizes requests for services based on emergency need or seriousness of call quickly and accurately.
3. Monitors and takes appropriate action on alarms. Rapidly initiates appropriate internal and external responses according to current procedure.
4. Promptly addresses 9-1-1 calls and stat line (18) calls. Initiates response via various methods of communication as appropriate. Allocates and dispatches available resources as necessary including creating urgent pages and activation of emergency teams to respond to clinical and non-clinical emergencies. Coordinates emergencies with local, state and federal law enforcement, fire and EMS authorities.
5. Documents, coordinates and acts as the central storage of information and communications during emergencies at all facilities.
6. Monitors the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance cameras in real time for activity, initiates security response when necessary.
7. May be required to train newly hired employees.
8. Provides customer service as needed. Responds to patient, visitor, vendor and employee inquiries.
9. Inputs all calls for service and department activities in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Maintains accurate logs and documentation of calls for service.
10. Receives Health Care Interpreter Network (HCIN) requests for live interpreters. Completes pages for urgent requests based upon current procedure.
11. Operates two-way radio system. Dispatches security personnel to calls for service; responds to officers requests/transmissions quickly; retrieves information from computerized database systems and broadcasts results to field personnel.
12. Monitors and operates electronic security access system.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience and education minimum requirements:

  • High school graduate/GED
  • One year of clerical experience and six months multi-line telephone operation

Preferred experience:

  • 911 dispatch, using Computer Aided Dispatch software program, CCTV surveillance and/or POST dispatchers course.
