Community Music Center of Boston is Hiring a Bilingual (Spanish) General Music Teacher - Specialities Preferred Near Boston, MA

CMCB is seeking a motivated and student-centered bilingual (Spanish) general music teacher to provide weekly group instruction to students of elementary school age, middle school age, and high school age in several Greater Boston area schools or community partners. This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated group teaching experience who are looking for community, growth opportunities, and a compensation structure that also includes paid administrative time and paid professional development opportunities.

Experience in music production, songwriting, winds, brass and/or percussion is strongly preferred, although any candidate who could provide general music instruction in a Spanish-English immersion school would be a great fit. Additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and/or candidates who are interested in private teaching.

Status: Part time hourly, exempt

Start Date: Week of August 19th, 2024

Schedule: In person, Monday-Friday, 6-10 hours per week between 9:00-2:00 plus additional hours that vary by school or community partner site

Specific Responsibilities

Music Instruction and Curriculum Development

  • Provide engaging, culturally inclusive, learner-centered, accessible and motivating group instruction that focuses on the fundamentals of music
  • Work with staff and faculty to implement musical and non-musical curricular goals
  • Work with students and school staff to develop mid- and end-of-year culminating events

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Attend the annual faculty orientation
  • Attend at least three paid professional development opportunities
  • Participate in mid-year and year end reviews
  • Document student outcomes
  • Use CMCB email address to respond to pertinent emails from staff and partners
  • Communicate clearly with CMCB staff and partners
  • Complete attendance in registration software accurately

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Performing Arts, Education, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching in a group setting
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Demonstrated experience teaching fundamental and introductory music material to students of public school age
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students
  • Must be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional values
  • Positive attitude and growth mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen to and learn from others

Preferred

  • Experience in music production, songwriting, winds, brass and/or percussion is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a public school or community setting
  • Experience working with students with disabilities

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 25-50% of the time. They need to constantly move around the space to access teaching supplies, instruments, and students. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume. They may occasionally move or transport supplies and instruments up to 10 pounds.
