COMPENSATION RANGE
: $48,000.00 per year to $171,600.00 per year payable biweekly commensurate on experience, credentials, and completion of assigned duties.


WORK SCHEDULE
: hybrid (remote and in person) 5 days per week Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for full time. Three weekdays a week during normal business hours for part-time. This position may be worked in the office, remotely or in the community. Clients must be scheduled at least 7 days in advanced before services are rendered.


ANTICIPATED TRAVEL
: 50% of the time. There is no additional compensation for travel.

SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Based on the needs of clients, you will service 8-20 clients (4-8 for part time) per day for individual sessions and facilitate a group at the end of each work day. The counselor is expected to document each service rendered during or immediately after each session. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to providing high-quality, integrated care for individuals struggling with both substance abuse and mental health disorders. This position involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing individual and group therapy to clients. Counselors may render service in all in person or a combination of in person and via telehealth. Counselors are required to service clients in person at least 50% of the time unless authorized in writing by the company. The counselor will be responsible for assessment of clients including the development, evaluation, and modification of the plan of care. The counselor interprets and performs complex patient care procedures specific to their area of expertise. Sets objectives and goals for treatment and develops treatment plans in conjunction with the medical director, implements and monitors treatment plans. Provides individual or group treatment, such as psychotherapy/counseling, supportive therapy or crisis intervention on a long term or short-term basis to various populations and age groups. Advise the program director on the development and implementation or rehabilitation services to assure that those services meet the needs of the individuals served by the Company. The counselor shall provide medically necessary services to clients assigned to the counselor by the company. Counselors are expected to understand evidenced based trauma informed therapeutic modalities. Model fidelity is also expected to be adhered to throughout treatment plan periods.


SCHEDULED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The counselor is expected to document all services rendered in ICANotes using the appropriate service document compliance checklist as a guide. Counselor's will not be compensated for documented services that do not meet compliance checklist standards.

  • The counselor is expected to provide medically necessary services focused on resilience, recovery and rehabilitation. Help clients achieve wellness and autonomy.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' substance abuse and mental health needs. The counselor is expected to complete a mental health focused screening tool with each assigned client as the second session of each month.   • Develop individualized treatment plans (ITRPs) that address both substance abuse and mental health issues. The counselor is expected to review ITRPs with each assigned client on a monthly basis as the first session of each month; making updates as needed.

  • Provide evidence-based group, individual, crisis and family therapy interventions to clients, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behavior therapy. The counselor is expected to schedule clients in ICANotes for each session and provide the next appointment at least 7 days in advanced. The counselor will be provided scheduling support from the scheduling department. Provide supporting documentation for services rendered to HR such as sign in sheets, phone logs, etc.

  • Collaborate with other members of the treatment team, including psychiatrists, nurses, and case managers, to ensure coordinated care. Participate in clinical supervision with the assigned supervisor at least once every 2 weeks as scheduled.

  • Monitor clients' progress in treatment and make adjustments to treatment plans as needed.

  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups and support groups for clients and their families.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client progress and treatment interventions.

  • Stay current on developments in the field of co-occurring disorders and participate in ongoing professional development activities.

  • Participate in the intake, discharge, and treatment team intervention processes as requested by the company.

  • Use the intranet software to communicate with the administrative support team to requests such as discharges, billing corrections, payroll discrepancies, etc.

  • Understand and abide by the policies and procedures of the company.

  • For services the company can facilitate through an affiliate such as PRP, residential treatment, outpatient detox, meet with the client to make those referrals on the fourth session of each month. For services the company is not able to facilitate such as methadone, inpatient, make referrals to externally providers vetted by the company.

  • For clients who are receiving addictions substance use disorder treatment, review urine drug screen results with the client on the fifth session of each month and order a random urine screen for the month if medically necessary.

  • Take the extra mile and interact with persons served to keep track of their progress and to ensure satisfaction.

  • When scheduled for crisis duty, be available on-call to clients in the event of a mental health crisis; providing direct intervention over the phone, face to face, or via telemedicine where necessary. On the same day crisis service is rendered, document crisis intervention services rendered in the icanotes software and notify the supervisor.


UNSCHEDULED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist supervisor with work related requests.

  • Collaborate with and serve as program POC for external treatment providers and outside agencies as needed.

  • Responsible for following regulations of COMAR, CARF, any other regulatory body, and company policies/ procedures related to service delivery and documentation and co-facilitating orientation of all new hires to these as well.

  • Support the maintenance of a safe environment by participating in training and drills as requested.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment.

  • Participate in external and internal audits/surveys (CARF/CSA/OHCQ) as directed by the supervisor.

  • Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement plans by completing periodic audits or other activities to ensure regulatory compliance and/or improve service delivery.

  • Ensure medical director or clinical supervisor review and co-sign documents as required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and regularly drives a motor vehicle.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an office, in client’s homes or in the community; Work exposes incumbent to contagious or infectious diseases; Work may expose incumbent to dangerous and volatile situations; which could result in bodily injury.

COMPETENCY / EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven working experience in counseling, including as a nurse, medical, mental health care manager or a related job
  • Excellent knowledge of psychotherapeutic principles, healthcare management and reimbursement
  • Previous experience with psychological aspects of care
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with professional and technical emerging knowledge
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multitask

EDUCATION:

  • Possess at least an associate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or health related field (Interns and students pursuing such degrees may provide services under this scope through contract with the higher learning institution only)


REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

Must be licensed, certified or approved to render services Maryland in one of the following disciplines:

  • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or

  • Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LCADC), or
  • Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LGADC), or
