Job description

The primary responsibility of the Project Manager is to oversee and lead all aspects of projects from concept through completion, working directly with Project Coordinators, and Engineering. The PM is the point of contact when there is an issue on the job site. PMs coordinate with Construction and Research & Development to resolve job site issues.

  • Serves as primary focal point for the identification and satisfaction of all internal and external needs and communications.
  • Collaborates with management to ensure compliance with company goals and objectives.
  • Manages the planning and coordination of project requirements from pre-bid (as needed) through project closeout.
  • Understands and manages the outcome of all aspects of project scope including but not limited to:
  • Reviews and verifies conformance to all estimate documentation, bid drawings, specifications, and contract documents/purchase orders.
  • Initiates and manages change order procedures as necessary:
  • Initiates and oversees internal change order procedures.
  • Provides focal point of customer communication to verify agreements and potential other solutions to avoid additional costs to stakeholders.
  • Prepares, coordinates and tracks RFI’s and change orders.
  • Manages project invoice schedule based on contract terms and allowances.
  • Monitors addendums as required.
  • Reviews all civil drawings for accurate grade elevations, conduit locations, drain locations, and vents if required. Set up meetings with customer PM’s when needed for verification.
  • Completes material take-offs and develops itemized materials lists based on project documents:
  • Communicates with Estimating and Purchasing as needed to verify buyout item lead times, baseline pricing, etc.
  • Determines material submittal requirements (based on contract documents, specs, and estimating documentation)
  • Prepares, coordinates, and tracks material orders for customer supplied and McGee purchased materials. Verifies all materials are received at the appropriate destination on the correct schedule.
  • Creates requisitions for light gage trusses, fascia systems not manufactured by McGee Corporation, and any other items purchased for a job.
  • Monitors and Controls overall project schedule:
  • Communicates with external stakeholders (GC, Owner, etc.) to determine expectations and requirements.
  • Manages internal resources to ensure that customer requirements are met. (CAD, Plant, Construction, Estimating)
  • Reviews the customer critical path schedule and ensures JST is on the same schedule.
  • Proficient at understanding and translating construction plans and drawings to include:
  • Completion and review of footing elevation forms required for construction.
  • Ensures project quality standards. Participates in quality control inspections and improvements with Construction Dept, R&D, CAD Dept, etc.
  • Promptly reports all Quality Control related items/issues to the QC Manager. Is responsible for making sure a QC email is sent to everyone for the purposes of (1) informing all of the occurrence/ error and (2) sending out a follow-up email to inform everyone of the resolution.
  • Maintains reports for all aspects of project(s)/program(s).
  • Schedules, leads, and reports on conference calls and meetings.
  • Internal team meetings
  • External team members including but not limited to general contractors, architects, engineers, other consultants, etc.
  • Resolves all internal and external issues including but not limited to:
  • Obtains/acquires all information needed to provide service to the customer.
  • Assists/coordinates with other team members when needed.
  • Reporting and resolution of field issues
  • Conducts project closeout to include:
  • Discussions with GC and/or subcontractor to verify completion and opportunities for improvement.
  • Project closeout report to include any updates to Lessons Learned Register.
  • Verification of any punch list items before issuance of final invoicing.
  • Collaborates with all other McGee PMs to keep everyone on schedule.
  • Attends weekly meeting with VP of Operations to keep him informed of job site schedules, CAD production, outside vendor purchased items, Engineering workloads, and any issues related to the job schedule.
  • Responsible for meeting deadlines and communicating with Engineer for better designs and quicker turnaround. Creates standard layouts for quicker permit drawing lead times and consistency from each Engineer.
  • Keeps Job Log updated for ACM and lights forecasting.
  • Helps develop and train other Project Managers and Project Coordinators
  • Lives out the company's core values in all work practices.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills and be a motivated team player.
  • Strong leadership, organization, self-management, negotiation and people skills are required.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Project Management software is a plus.
  • Knowledge with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Must have knowledge of building codes, estimating, budgeting and scheduling.
  • Must possess knowledge of architectural design process and construction documents.
  • Understanding of field operations and building material costs, ability to manage those costs is desired.
  • Must possess blueprint reading skills and knowledge of the construction industry.
  • Proactive approach to project management.
  • Must be efficient, results oriented, resilient, flexible and goal oriented.
  • Must be well organized and able to multi-task.
  • Teamwork and strong problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Must possess excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal is required.

Education & Experience

  • Three (3) years Construction Project Management experience is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • BA/BS degree with construction/architecture related curriculum is a plus.
