What are we looking for in a Behavioral Health Specialist?
This position serves as both a treatment provider and an intermediary to support individuals who have been selected to participate in the mental health program of Yakima County's Probation Services. Working as part of a multi-agency team, the Behavioral Health Specialist will coordinate closely with both probation services and courts for Yakima County to provide supportive counseling and mental health assessments to each program participant. The Behavioral Health Specialist will coordinate services and resources for each participant to ensure they are receiving the support they need to achieve the goals identified in their treatment plan. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with individuals who are involved with the legal system, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple partner organizations. The work schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
Behavioral Health Specialist duties may include:
  • completing mental health assessments and intake evaluations for each participant in Yakima County Probation's mental health program
  • screening participants according to program guidelines and completing appropriate documentation to support admission decisions
  • collaborating with each client to develop an individualized treatment plan
  • providing supportive counseling, case management, and care coordination to help connect participants with necessary services & resources
  • coordinating with the courts & probation offices to provide updates about participants' engagement with treatment and service access
  • assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others, and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated
  • completing all required clinical documentation in a timely and client-centered manner
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field
  • Must have associate or full professional licensure or be otherwise eligible for MHP designation
  • Must be eligible for registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle liability insurance
