CompuNet Clinical Laboratories is Hiring a Coordinator-ER Lab Support Near Dayton, OH

Located in Miami Valley Hospital (Dayton, OH)
Full-time Dayshift (9:00am to 5:30pm)
Position Summary:
The MVH Emergency Trauma Center (ETC) Lab Support Coordinator works with laboratory leadership to coordinate the daily workflow, training, inventory, and process improvements in the emergency room. Duties include, but are not limited to, the coordination of collections, assuring timely draws by all specimen collectors, escalating issues as necessary, and working as a phlebotomist as needed
Responsibilities:
  • Perform all phlebotomy (venipunctures and capillary punctures)/processing duties as outlined in the departmental procedure manual.
  • Follow proper procedures for patient identification and labeling of laboratory specimens.
  • Operate and maintain departmental equipment, including but not limited to, handheld specimen collection devices, paging system, pneumatic tube system, computers and printers.
  • Complete training when new procedures are introduced, or current procedures are changed.
  • Collaborates with inpatient workflow coordinator to maintain a balance of resources between the ETC and inpatient areas in order to ensure needs of facility are met.
  • Facilitate positive communication and interaction of shift members with internal and external customers through timely telephone response and dispatch for phlebotomy requests.
  • Field calls from patient care team regarding pre-analytical issues including incorrect orders, investigate issues, offer solutions, and resolve problems within scope of ability. Handle problems appropriately and exhibit good judgement.
  • Keep appropriate persons informed of problems and issues.
  • Works with lab leadership to capture and track proper lab documentation of specimen collection delays, investigating issues and providing feedback for improvement.
  • Promote shift-to-shift cooperation through consistent review of monitors, cancellation requests, draw comments, and add-on testing capability.
  • Assist with performing safety and AIDET audits/observations with all phlebotomists.
  • Assist with training/mentoring new employees and/or students, as needed.
  • Perform routine inventory checks and complete ordering as required to maintain appropriate supply levels.
  • Load patient specimen onto laboratory instruments within scope of training.
  • Work as part of a team within home department to ensure work is completed efficiently, goals are met, and projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Work as part of a team within the company, floating to other sites as requested and staffing needs dictate.
  • Complete annual competency assessment requirements.
  • Comply with all departmental and company safety and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.
  • Perform all duties according to CompuNet’s behavioral standards, demonstrating positive customer service principles to patients and coworkers at all times.
Qualifications:
  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy experience or training in Emergency Room phlebotomy is required, preferred minimum of 1 year.
  • Healthcare/laboratory experience is required
  • Must demonstrate a strong history of dependability and customer service skills.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft programs.
  • An on-going qualification to remain in the position is to avoid corrective action above the level of “Warning.”
Safety & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to walk 5-7 miles daily and stand for entire shift
  • Exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals
  • Adherence to safety, ergonomic, and health policies
  • Compliance with PPE requirements in lab or biohazard areas
  • Completion of required safety training and health evaluations promptly
  • Proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety hazards, promoting safety awareness
