Comstock Park School District is Hiring a Food Service Near Comstock, MI

THIS POSITION STARTS IN THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR AND IS 36.25 HOURS PER WEEK.


Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.


SUMMARY
:

To assist in the direction of the district's food service program in conformance with local, state and federal regulations and requirements including public health and safety. To assist in the preparation and serving of quality food to staff and students in a quick and pleasant manner.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Preferably Food Service Experience
  • Preferably Servsafe Certified or willingness to become certified.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and food service equipment
  • Ability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to be a team player and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of staff members
  • Ability to work with children in a caring and nurturing manner
  • Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the quantity of food preparation.
  • Assist with serving student meals.
  • Assist in other building kitchens when necessary.
  • Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Sets up and breaks down serving lines (salad bar, hot food, ala carte etc.)
  • Operates POS cash register system.
  • Daily limited cleaning of the cafeteria and kitchen area.
  • Counts money, makes change, and completes related reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Ability to read recipes.
  • Ability to cook.
  • Ability to follow the kitchen lead cook’s directions.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) previous experience with large scale cooking and food preparation/serving preferred.
  • Preferably has had food service experience


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision and color vision.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
