We are currently in search of an experienced Peer Recovery Specialist for our Hagerstown, MD location. The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) at Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health and all its subsidiaries ("Kolmac" or the "Company") provides peer recovery support services in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of providers that comprehensive and integrated treatment to individuals with substance use disorders. ?The PRS serves as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals to help prevent disengagement from treatment, relapse and promote long-term recovery. PRS is invaluable for Kolmac-CCG patients at times of crisis, return to use, disengagement and work alongside the clinicians to intervene and prevent discontinuation of treatment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide client transportation, if applicable
  • Provide front desk coverage, if applicable
  • Other program or administrative related task i.e. cooking, urin drug screening, etc. if applicable
  • Establish authentic peer-to-peer relationships with patients enrolled in Kolmacs and CCGs addiction treatment services; providing recovery education and support as patients move through the various phases (pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization and sustained recovery maintenance)

  • Facilitate weekly peer support groups that promote self-advocacy and allow patients a voice and a forum in which they can express their point of view, share experiences, and communicate their preferences

  • Collaborate with the programs leadership, providers, and support staff to develop a culture where patients point of view and experiences are respected and understood

  • Facilitate through personal coaching the development of a self-directed recovery plan that assists in identifying the patients strengths and recovery goals for opioid addicted individuals that results in a transition to community supported recovery maintenance

  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering of personal goals and interest

  • Collaborate with the Center Directors and Clinical Supervisors to develop a peer informed strategy to provide effective outreach that result in improved patient recruitment and fosters a congenial relationship between Kolmac & CCG and community residents and works to decrease stigma associated with drug treatment for individuals

  • Participate in planning and implementation activities to assure that Peer Recovery Support Services are an integral part of the planning, implementation, and delivery of treatment services

  • Work in collaboration with the Admissions/Intake team to support, monitor and advocate for patients, promote self-advocacy, and identify barriers during the Intake and Orientation process

  • Provide peer recovery support services to patients referred who are demonstrating signs of disengagement, a need for enhanced support and those who are interested in strengthening their recovery

  • Communicate effectively with staff, leadership, patients, and the community at large

  • Document all services in an accurate and timely manner and within standards and regulations required

  • Ensure that documentation is completed thoroughly and in a timely fashion as indicated by CARF and state standards

  • Every contact interaction is documented in Credible (Kolmac) or SAMMSs (CCG) within 24 hours of the service

  • Conducts evidence-based programming for prevention and resilient families onsite and virtually. Conduct workshops and education seminars

  • Connects patients and their families with community resources for recovery support

  • Ensure all patients at risk for overdose complete naloxone training during treatment

  • Ensures patients complete their routine BAM, SNAP, and/or other assessments

  • Serve as liaison between Alumnus, Clinical Supervisors, Center Directors, and Practice Managers

  • Meet new patients during their first week of treatment

  • Expectation is a 70% utilization contact/productivity

  • Conduct brief 1:1 session

  • Attend Clinical Team Meetings

  • Facilitates 45-minute, weekly education sessions in-person or via zoom webinar (known as third hour), including but not limited to topics like: transitioning from IOP to OP, importance of ongoing treatment, building recovery capital, importance of connecting with recovery support

  • Calls to patients when they are a no show to scheduled clinical or medical services to foster re-engagement in the treatment program

  • Contacts patient alumni for the first 90 days post-treatment and documents contact

  • Attends daily IOP groups to support clinical group process, focusing on recovery tools and resources, and demonstrating a lived recovery experience

  • Maintain a list of Alumnus willing to meet patients at sober support meetings

  • Will provide recovery support by talking with patients struggling with maintaining abstinence or staying in treatment, providing encouragement, motivation, and support

  • Administers lifesaving NARCAN in the event of an overdose episode. Utilizes CPR/AED in the event of cardiac arrest

  • Completes continuing education as required to acquire and maintain certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist Maintains current, accurate knowledge of trends and issues related to wellness and recovery

  • Assist in linking patients to community recovery resources

  • Conduct phone contacts and schedule times to meet with Kolmac patients who reside at sober living homes to assist with providing additional community resources

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Worked for at least 1-year, full time, or part time, paid or voluntary work experience
  • Must understand and respect for everyones unique path to recovery and must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and demonstrated commitment to the recovery community
  • Must have 3 years of continuous abstinence

Licenses and Other Required Credentials:

  • Completed training requirements for a Certified Peer Specialist. Peer Recovery Specialist Certification is preferred and if not certified at hiring, must become certified within 18 months of their hire date
