Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon is Hiring a Chief of Police Near Warm Springs, OR

Protect lives and property on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. Establishes department goals, long range plans, objectives, policies, directives, regulations and procedures based upon the needs of the Tribe and the Police Department; continually monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and responsiveness of the department and personnel. Ensures compliance with all laws the department and/or officers have the authority to enforce. Manage grievances, departmental discipline and maintain the conduct and general behavior of assigned personnel. Respond to and successfully resolve difficult, sensitive or controversial citizen inquiries and complaints. Oversees the investigation of major crime scenes; administers the approved annual budget according to established tribal policy and is fiscally responsible by operating within the approved budget; Maintains equipment and personnel at a level consistent with budgeted allocations. Seeks financial assistance through grant writing at the federal, state, and local levels. Maintain appropriate services and staffing levels to meet the law enforcement adequately and public safety needs of the reservation. Ensure and enforce all laws regarding off reservation treaty rights. Cooperate effectively with other Public Safety Branch Departments and other external public safety and law enforcement agencies to ensure protection of life and property. Performs other related duties as required.
RequirementsBachelor’s degree or equivalent to in Criminal Justice or related field. 5-years of progressively responsible supervisory and administrative law enforcement experience. Current or prior law enforcement experience is required. Active Oregon DPSST Certification or equal Police Certification from a recognized law enforcement academy with the ability to obtain Advanced and Management level of certification within one year of hire are required. Must pass pre-employment testing, background check(s) and drug screening. Must demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of Tribal Law Enforcement and working within Native American Communities. Tribal Member and or Native American Preference will be given to qualified candidates in accordance with the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.
