About the Role
The Executive Director of Policy is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the Policy Unit, which is integral to the development and maintenance of external policies that impact the staff, contract agencies, and stakeholders of the child welfare and juvenile justice services. The successful candidate will lead a team of policy writers, ensuring the quality and timeliness of policy drafts, and will be involved in all aspects of the policy development process, from research and evaluation to coordination of internal and external policy reviews. This role requires a high level of skill, nuance, and technical expertise in areas such as child protection, foster care, preventive services, juvenile justice, adoption, family court, and early care and education. The Executive Director will also be the point of contact for public inquiries and will oversee the management of the agency's policy databases.Applicants for the Executive Director of Policy position must have a JD and be admitted to the New York State Bar, with a minimum of 4 years' of recent full-time legal experience, including 18 months in a supervisory or highly complex legal work capacity. A Master's degree in social work, public administration, or a related human services or public policy field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have exemplary written and oral communication skills, the ability to interpret and develop technical guidance, and experience in child and family services in New York City. Strong computer skills, including the ability to format documents and conduct research, are also necessary. The role demands a deep understanding of child welfare policies and practices, as well as the ability to analyze and improve service delivery and agency workflow.
