About the Role

The Managing Director of Development at The Company is a key leadership role responsible for managing a portfolio of prospective donors, securing major gifts and pledges of $100,000 or more, and aiming to close $1M-2.5M annually. This individual will work closely with the Office of Development, Deans, faculty, staff, and colleagues in the Division of Advancement to develop and execute fundraising plans that align with university efforts, including comprehensive campaigns. The role involves effective portfolio management of 75-100 major gift prospects, achieving personal annual fundraising goals, and collaborating with advancement leadership to develop marketable fundraising priorities and strategies. The Managing Director will also be involved in managing up to two development staff, including hiring, onboarding, and professional development.Candidates for this position must have a Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience as a major gift officer, with a track record of securing appointments and closing gifts at the $100,000 level. A Master's degree is preferred, along with 3-5 years' experience closing major gifts in an academic setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team, and the independence necessary to manage multiple projects concurrently. They should also possess an empathetic disposition, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence and continuous professional development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, experience with CRM or database systems, and the willingness to travel and work after-hours or on weekends are also required.
