About the Role
The Company is in need of an experienced Medical Director to join their Underwriting Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical expertise and guidance to the underwriting staff, particularly in the area of risk selection for various insurance products. This includes individual life insurance, long-term care, and annuities for impaired lives. The role also involves statistical analysis of mortality, case analysis, and referrals, as well as input on contestable claim reviews. The Medical Director will play a key part in training and developing the underwriting team and will be expected to stay current with advances in medicine and the risk selection process.Applicants for the Medical Director position should possess a current medical license, be board-certified in insurance medicine or willing to obtain certification, and have a strong background in a medical specialty. Experience in the Broker General Agent marketplace and complex substandard underwriting is highly desirable. The role requires a candidate with at least 5 years of experience in life insurance underwriting, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to excellence. The ability to work in a paperless environment and experience with special projects is also preferred. The Medical Director will be part of a team that collaborates with reinsurance partners and will be involved in various company initiatives, including the development of new products and updates to underwriting guidelines.
