About the Role
The Company is seeking a Vice President for Communications and Public Relations to lead an inclusive and proactive unit that is responsible for generating high-quality content across all university channels. The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of the unique aspects of a higher education environment, or a comparable setting, and will have a minimum of 10 years of related experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. This role involves overseeing a matrixed organization of 33 staff, including teams for academic, advancement, athletics, internal, and law school communications. The Vice President will also serve as the senior spokesperson, managing high-risk media issues, and will be responsible for the strategic development and approval of the institution's most visible communications.Applicants for the Vice President position should have a Master's degree, preferably with a specialization in communications, journalism, or business management, and expertise in a complex communications ecosystem. The role requires superior oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to create and manage integrated communication and public relations strategies for both internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on, collaborative leadership style and be adept at leading teams in a high-stakes environment. Professional certification, such as from the Public Relations Society of America, is preferred.
